I would do it but I'd probably end up walking out on my own and getting suspended or something :P

Pfft! Everybody will walk out for the sake of it, if they give a toss about the war or not.

Nah, stay in school... they might teach you how to spell "COLLEGE". :p

    [edit]:

One day of school or college will have more of an effect on your education than this so-called "protest" will have on any war. It's a meaningless, pointless and lazy gesture.

And remember girls and boys - just because you saw it on the web doesn't make it true :p

OH NO!!!!! a walkout of Collage!!!??? there'll be pva glue and bits of crepe paper all over the place!! noooo.... won't somebody think of the children!!!!!!!!

seriously, though, tis a noble thing you do, but i really can't see anything of the sort going down in UCD- our SU can't be bothered getting off their arses to do anything about the fees issue, which actually affects them, so it's unlikely that they'll venture out of their smoke-filled little cave to actually notice there's a war on at all (or even that other people inhabit the same planet as them!)

If the target 'war' is USA v Iraq, wouldn't it be polite to wait until either side had started.

    Just a thought....

And all you college educated lads missed the misspelling of "school"?

    :p

Like Borzoi, I think I'd wait until someone chucks something at someone else before protesting. Besides, I doubt Irish school goers will change dubya's mind. :)

I did a massive reply to this but lost it because of the techie probs on the boards. So heres the short and curlys.......

I support the war.The anti war lobby is popular partly because they have been allowed to get their lies and half truths broadcast to a wide audience thanks to a spineless media.Anybody who saw the late late last week will know what I am talking about.I counted at least 3 or 4 lies or half truths that the anti war guests on the show were allowed to say without being cut off the air, which should have been done for the rubbish they were talking.Sure the war ha some flawed logic but in general it has a good reason for happening.Thiusands are dying because Saddam will not import medical supplies he is allowed to import in order to shame the US.It is partly the fault of the west but most blame lies with saddam. And these peace activists were probably protesting a decade ago because the US wouldnt invade Iraq to save the Kurds. In their eyes the US can do no right-they deserve no attention.

But sure if it means Id get out for a few hours I would take part:) Ireland has a history of taking part in mass protest in order to get a few hours out of work, school, college etc.It happened most recently about 2 years ago when,in one of my fondest held school days, rebellion and rioting erupted at schools nationwide in protest"against"the teachers strike(of course we loved the stirke-some weeks we were getting 3 out of 5 days off, which is much appreciated afternoon sleep in time in the cold winter months:) )Anyway for about 3 hours we took over the school. It was great to see the look on the face of our wanker of a Dep Principal when he realised he had lost control and could do nothing:D

As said,I support the war,but damn I want to waste a few hours so if this campaign gathers momentum count me in:) Hey,my reasons mightnbt be right but who cares-most of these anti war people dont have a clue what their on about so what odds.

Strange. This reply is longer than the one I lost:D

What Pat Kenny stifling any anti war debate?
Anyone who had any anti-war point was quickly dimissed.

All of you mention the same point that Pat Kenny kept going back to. i.e. what affect is a protest in a little country like ours going to do to stop the big bad US?

So what you are saying is 'What's the point in trying if we are going to fail anyway?'.

    btw count me in.

I'll spread the word amongst my class mates in D.I.T. Aungier St.

I don't support the Bush twat (How the f*ck did he come into power, seriously?) because he is only in it for the Oil. Most of his administration were working in Oil before they came to power!!!

But, I am starting to support Blair and his push for war. He seems to be very passionate about what is happening and I really do believe that he sees Iraq as a strong and lethal threat.

ando: Check out the politics board there's a discussion going on about Bush/Iraq and the political war.

As for the protest I really can't see it going down well.

    Why bother protesting?

    1) Nobody will care about a few students in ireland and
    2) It'll liven up tv for a bit so im all for it :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭lordsippa

Ok... firstly the bush administration is pushing for hydrogen fuel cells over ANYTHING it's currently investing money into. So the whole oil thing isn't quite as valid as one would think.

But personally I don't really care. A war may happen. People may die. But because it's an AMERICAN war we should all of a sudden care? Grow up and let the idiots fight amongst themselves.

As for the rally... bleh. Have fun. I'm in 6th year so i doubt I'll be taking the day off. Doing little enough study as is.

Funny, I would have said the opposite. And not just based on one-sided stuff Sky/Fox News either. The screw-up wrt the Tim Hourigan debate v Brian Cowen on PrimeTime is an RTE case in point. RTE are still trying to defend this - just changing the reason any time someone points out that they're not benig too coherent on the matter.
