BIOS Chip problem?

I updated the BIOS on a M585LMR motherboard. Everything looked OK.
Rebooted the PC and nothing, just a load of beep's.

I tried to "Hot Flash" the chip ( thanks Mike ) using another motherboard ( GA-586HX Rev 1.56 ) and Uniflash v1.29.
The BIOS image does get uploaded but fails verification.
Different versions of the BIOS image also fail verification ( but in different areas ).

Uniflash tells me that the BIOS chip is an "Macronix MX29F002(N)T / 5V".

    So, the questions are:
    Am I doing something stupid?
Anyone know where I can get a replacement BIOS chip?
Can I upload the BIOS image into any BIOS chip and use that instead?

    Thanks.

    Patrick.

Try using the latest AMI Flash utility, Ive found it flashes (even Award) bioses better than UniFlasher and AwdFlash.

Yeah, since its a foreign bios to the gigabyte board, it may be trying to verify the wrong checksum. Theres an unconditional switch to the awdflash command I think also, /F or something...

You can get a new chip from www.badflash.com , I've used these before in an emergency and got my chip back in about a week, only cost $25, so well worth it. Check out their site

Yeah I've used them also, and I think a few others have too, the other options are worth a shot first though :)

    Success!!!

Using Uniflash, I flashed the backup image I made before it all went horribly wrong, back onto the chip, including the bootblock.

I still got the verification error messages but I ignored them.
( As Gerry said: foreign bios / verify wrong checksum )

Put the chip back into the original PC and it worked!!

Then spent half an hour trying to get it to recognise the hard disk, stupid IDE cable was on backwards

    Thanks.
