It's gotta be Jimi, he was the best.
That's not saying that Rory wasn't up there with him. I Love both of them and know a lot of both of their stuff, so I'd have to go with Jimi, he seems to have more variety and styles in his playin.

No brainer, Jimi without a doubt!

Jimi all the way... Also I read somewhere that Jimi was naturally right handed...i.e he wrote with his right hand...just chose to play guitar left handed.

Really? I didn't know that. I know he played a right handed guitar.

wouldnt want to comment on whos better - its a matter of taste
but i think rory gallagher is very underrated- unfortunately our generation will never hear him live and im sure thats where he excelled the most -saw a tribute at the olympia -the songs were played exactly as on the live records and to hear his improvisations live was some experience - of course i havent heard hendrix live either!
in there own way -rorys band were just as accomplished players as those that hendrix had-i think the irish tour video is testament to that
i heard a story where rory gallagher played with slash in the US( a one off duel!)-anyway i dont think rory got much of a reception but its said he far outplayed the home favourite(myth or fact if ya can shed some light on it, let us know)

It wasn't a one off duel. Rory was playing and Slash ( who is a, self-confused, huge fan of Rory's ) had come down to see Rory play. Towards the end of Rory's set, Slash was asked if he'd like to come up on stage and jam. Slash was completely amazed that Rory even knew who he was. Slash was interviewed as part of a tribute to Rory, can't remember which one though.

As for comparing them, well they both had very different styles. Needless to say they were both great, with Rory not quite having the exposure that Jimi enjoyed.

never knew that man, its crazy the two best guitarists in the world (in my opinion) on the same stage jamin. Anyhoo you know rory gallaghers guitar below is being mass producted by fender, though it would be cheaper just to fu'ck around with sand paper and a sun-burst strat.

That isn't as easy a question as some people are making it seem.

I'd have to say jimi but it may have been different if rory had made it into the commercial scene.

Jimi had the advantage of Bizarre which was perfect for the late 60's. If rory wasn't such a true blues master he would definately have made it all the way. But there in lies the problem. Would Rory have been the same musician if he had adjusted his raw style for the mass media!!

Therefore i must conclude that both musicians were equally as talented and gifted but it was jimi's flare for creation that gives him my vote.
Not as easy question by any means.
