Just finished watching Waynes World 2 on Sky One. What a brilliant movie.

The topic for discussion is this:

"There hasn't been a laugh-out-loud consistently funny movie in the cinema since Waynes World 2."

    Discuss.

    - Dave.

No way, that film sucked ass.

    THE BIG LEBOWSKI.
    Accept no substitutes.

Fight Club was pretty damn funny also.

Adam Sandler is usually a good safe bet... and that's true again with his latest movie Mr. Deeds, - still showing in some cinemas. Went to see it the other night and got a great laugh out of it.

Waynes World 2 was funny ... but it's aged badly.

Forgot about The Dude. Thanks for the reminder. Fight Club wasn't a comedy - it just had some funny bits.

One of the funniest comedies I've ever seen has to be Midnight Run. It's side splitting all the way and brilliant performances from deNiro and Charles Grodin!!:p

    Dumb & Dumber ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,392 ✭✭✭jonno

Ya I agree with the last two. DUmb and Dumber is just all out laughing all the way through.

Midnight Run also. Class movie. It comic undertones all the way through. De Niro is brilliant and Grodin rebounds off him really well. Never get sick of it (or its cheesy theme tune)

My original post said "since Waynes World 2". Thats since 1993.

    Life of Brian: 1979
    Withnail and I: 1987
    Midnight Run: 1988

Dumb and Dumber, and The Big Lebowski both qualify.....

One of the best comedy movies SINCE :) Waynes World 2 is Bandits with Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton and Cate Blanchett. Very funny movie, the soundtrack is brilliant too.
One of the best scenes is the one where Cate runs over BB in the merc then rushes him to hospital at breakneck speed!! I was cracking up!! :p

    MR. DEEDS??????

    DEAR GOD!!!!

That movie is a travesty - a complete travesty. Adam Sandler and Winona Ryder should be shot for defiling what was a classic Frank Capra / Jimmy Stewart pic <a href="http://us.imdb.com/Title?0027996>Mr. Deeds Goes to Town</a>

    Aaarrrggghhhh. ****E ****E ****E.

Ah jesus... it wasn't THAT bad! It had some cringeworthy moments (Space Oddity in the plane springs to mind), but Steve Buscemi and John Turturro were brilliant ("I think you are underestimating the sneakiness")

Also, Meet The Parents is very funny.

Kevin Smith movies are a safe bet.... Clerks and Mallrats are hilarious. I despise Austin Powers, though, and some of the Adam Sandler films are pretty bad, too.

    Ace Ventura: Pet Detective!

Dan Marino: Hey Ace, got anymore of that gum?
Ace Ventura: That's none of your damn business and I'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.

Ace Ventura: I have a package for you, sir.
    Man: Sounds broken.
Ace Ventura: Most likely; I bet it was something nice, though!

Ronald Camp: I'll have the plumbing checked immediately, Mr. Ace.
Ace Ventura: See that you do. If I'd been drinking out of the toilet, I might've been killed.

Aguado: Homicide, Ventura, now how ya gonna solve that one?
Ace Ventura: Good question, Aguado. First, I'd establish a motive. In this case the killer saw the size of the bug's DICK and become insanely jealous. Then I'd lose 40 pounds... PORKIN' his wife!

Lois Einhorn: Listen, pet dick. How would you like me to make your life a living hell?
Ace Ventura: Well, I'm not really ready for a relationship, Lois, but thank you for asking. Hey, maybe I'll give you a call sometime. Your number's still 911? All righty then.

Lois Einhorn: What would you know about pressure!
Ace Ventura: Well, I have kissed a man.

Ace Ventura: [bending over and talking from his behind] Excuse me, may I... ASS you a question?

Jim Carey is a good bet. I think Ferris Buellers day off was a good comedy. Trading Places was good.

But really there are not too many great comedys.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is probably the best Kevin Smith film for just all-out laughs, and South Park was just genius. Boosh, Trey Parker! Aside from those two, the cinema's been pretty devoid of really funny stuff, those there's been tons of mildly amusing and worth seeing films.

I hear tell there's gonig to be a League of Gentlemen film, so that'll be one to watch... Oh yes, that will be one to watch...

Damn, I was going to rent Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back the other day but a friend told me it was crap! Saying that, he didnt like Dogma either.
