The new Chief Executive at Sky Network Dawn Airey has announced details of Sky's new music channels which are set for a launch in spring of this year. The new channels will be huge competition for the existing MTV and Emap channels. The new channels will be called Pop, Amp and Axe. Pop as the name suggests will play chart hits and will be geared towards a young female audience, with Amp being more rock, indie and metal based and a mixture of both Kerrang and MTV2. Amp can be described as a mixture of both Magic and VH1 with music being played from the past for older viewers'.

Former Broadcast Director of God TV, Tony Hazell is planning to launch two new channels by the end of summer this year. He has formed NTX, an independent transmission company, which will launch the Horror Channel and Romance Channel. Both channels will debut in August with programming for both channels being acquired from production companies. However NTX will also produce some programmes for the Horror Channel. The Romance Channel will also commence broadcasting at around the same time, with programming be targeted to a female audience. The Horror Channel is expected to target more of a male audience with a string of gory films already bagged by the channel.

Auction-World TV has announced it is to launch a new channel dedicated to mobile phones on February 1. Called Phone-World TV, the shopping channel will provide deals on handsets and network packages, and will also feature information about phones, tariffs, new accessories and gadgets

I look forward to seeing the new Sky music channels, especially the one with the rock music (is it amp or axe? i assume it's Amp).

The Horror Channel sounds interesting too and may be watchable every now and then.

U gotta admit though the names aren't exactly the best, I'd have thought they'd have at least put a SKY before them - SKY POP or something like that

Maybe they will! I wonder how it will affect MTV Networks channels. Although MTV sometimes loses its way, I still think they're the best at what they do. If they'd just bring back Headbangers Ball! :D

I think MTV have made absolute balls of their channels since they split up MTV Europe and its getting worse by the month it seems, only recently they have destroyed MTV2 and taken the Friday Rock Show out of VH1, both were the last remaining strand of decent metal we had on TV now all sadly gone. sure theres the odd video on Kerrang but its like a glorified smash hits.

Headbangers Ball and Into The Pit were my favourite TV shows all thru school and shortly after, We didnt realise back then how good we had it, the show was awesum, Venessa Warick the VJ of the show covered every genre in metal and really knew her stuff. I also miss with great affection Ray Cokes Most Wanted *sniff* , 120 Minutes with Tobe Ames and the quirky MTV animations during breaks. MTV Europe was the one and only 24 hour music station we had in the early 90s and it had a bigger and more varied playlist then all the crappy 16 music stations we have now put together not to mention a VJ who specialised in each genre of Music and knew exactly what they were on about.

    I WANT MY MTV BACK

It has been announced this afternoon that Dawn Airey, overseeing the launch of Sky's new music channels has, after extensive consumer research, decided to rename Axe, Pop and Amp to Scuzz, Gloss and The Amp respectively. Scuzz will be a rock based channel, whilst Gloss will have a modern feel featuring poppy chart music and The Amp will be a VH-1 style channel, catering for the older generation. The channels are still to launch in April, as planned
