Hello Everyone! I got a new psu for my computer it is 400w duel fan thingey anyway the fsb on my computer(whatever that is is hampering everything a lot, or so i am told)its at 100 I think, I may be buying a new motherboard preferably of Komplett because i will be ordering something else at the same time. How do i know what kind of P4 processor my computer is, It is a 2.5ghz i know. Is the fsb on the processor or the motherboard. If its on the motherboard i need one which can take DDR ram and in the price range of about €130-190. cheers!

Erm, please hold on a minute. Your fsb is at 100. The chip has a multiplier which is currently set to 25 .

    so 25 * 100 = 2500mhz = 2.5ghz

This multiplier of 25 CANNOT be changed. So you can't run a higher fsb speed without causing your chip to run at a higher speed. Normally, with a low speed chip this would not be a problem, but if you run the motherboard at 133 fsb, you will be attempting to run the chip at 3333mhz, which is too high a jump I'm afraid. So your options are, to run the chip at what ever fsb speed it will run stably at, ( maybe 110 - 120 ), and get only a limited return on investment on your new board, or just stick with your existing board.

The second option makes far more sense. While your fsb is a bottleneck, its really the low speed ddr that is causing the problem. To get yourself a much faster machine, you would need to get a 533mhz bus cpu like the 2.53 chip, which is a lot of expense and hassle flogging your old stuff.

The FSB 'on the chip' is actually 100/133 MHz quad multiplied .
ie 400/533 MHz.It works with the mobo speed -same as 100/133
The Intel 850 chipsets have a FSB of 800/1033 MHz for the ram (expensive ram and mobo)
The Intel 845 chipsets work with DDr and SD-Ram

FSB is both on the chip and board and they work together at the different multipliers to form a bottleneck.-beautiful

    Its the 'almost new' P4 wL2 cache512
Your chip will work on any board that takes socket 478 P4's
Its all down to the money, the more you spend....................

There are 2 cheap boards from ECS
    The p4s5a and the p5s5a
    the latter being the better.
    Comes in around €130

    Intel boards are from €170+
    ANd RAMBUS is 2expensive

    Go for the cheap
