well i play chaos space marines but i'd have to say of all the armies ive seen used eldar seem to be quite a bit above the rest , sorry i dont have lists done out if you were looking for them :/

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭Runfree

Wasn't particulary looking for a list no. they are welcome if you want to post them. Im just looking for the strongest army of 2000 points that you can create.

Some armys have advantages of having loads of units for little points for example Orks are very cheap

totally depends on what sort of scenario you're going fighting tbh.

Eldar are great for fast attack, Orks for weight of numbers, Spacemarines for pure 'ardness, Imperial Guard for piss weak mon-keigh in treaded coffins.....

good point Syxpak thats why I am withholding my opinion for now. Im gonna think out my answer

For defending a position, no-one can assault the imperial guards, theres just so much fodder to fire at!! IP cant be beat with firepower, you could have an entire army of space marines just firing like hell at them and it would be like shoveling mount everest!!

However my favourite army is Chaos, for the simple reason of variety, they have a man for every possable job, and their all 'ard buggers, especially in close combat, anyone who argues with Kharn or the Bloodthirster in melee is either dead or about to be.

Got had a friend who collected them. He was from sweden though he worked for my sister. He was a bit of a weirdo.

They aint that great I must say. There tactical squad would be for close combat(which is quite useless when fighting against tanks)

Well there isent suposde to be a best army if there are 2 2000 point armys on a battle fild they are suposd to be equal. Well thats what GW strive for anyway. But as for my favroite 40k army have to be the sisters of battle, but i did also like the tyrnaids, slimy green Bast`rds.

I may cause some contraversy for my opinion but here it goes anyway...
Space marines a boaring and the choice of the 12 year olds!

I know they are suppose to be equal but you know yourself they aren't going to be equal.

If you know who you are fighting and what type of army you are fighting you can give yourself the advantage of selecting units that can beat the opponent quicker. Eg. setup for a Fast attack or just outnumber the opponent.

My opinion is yet to come. got to think mine over yet :)

Hmm i say eldar because of the sheer amount of firepower they can hurl aorund the place!

In terms of sheer shooty-ness the Tau are top. If you can keep your opponent out of close-combat, you will butcher them.

    However .........

I witnessed (whilst GM'ing a national w40k final at Gaelcon - 2001 I think) a Tau army get decimated by 2 space marines with jump packs and a chaplain (Blood Angels), who simply worked their way up the line.

    So there's the trade off.

I think 2 gun drones and a crisis suit survived at the end.

Ive always wanted to see them Tau fella's in action, they seem like fun :)
If you say they get ripped to pieces in melee, my chaos will have fun with them *drool* bloodthirster!

Assualt squad were doing there duty there anyway. They are pretty good for fast attack.

What I love is having a fast attack with a long range backup of a whirlwind. Have a Land Speeder squad with a typhoon or a tornado perharps and an assault squad and a bike squadron with attack bike. Make sure to have a nice couple of upgrades on them. Its cost ya points but its definatly works(sumtimes it doesn't thoug :( )

    Ah well just another strategy

    On that note .....

Whilst GM'ing the Gaelcon 2002 w40k finals/national finals, I witnessed another "interesting" little development.

It regards the Necrons, and everyone who says they are just too hard to fight against......

Three (??) Necron armies participated. Every single one of them was D-E-C-I-M-A-T-E-D, interestingly enough, by three specific armies.

    Blood Angels
    Space Wolves
    Chaos Space Marines

(who wants to point out the similarities between those three armies?? ;) )

    ME, ME, ME......is it.............SPACE MARINES!!!

Like it says in the space marine codex "Give me a hundred Space Marines. Or failing that give me a thousand other troops"

Anything to do with about 3-4 rhinos stuffed with hand-to-hand combat maniacs and characters legging it over the landscape?

    First Prize goes to Regi!

That's right boys and girls ...

Close Combat oriented Space-Marine armies will make mince-meat out of Necrons. Well, they will when combined with a very specific tactic which I'll not mention. Suffice to say if you read Codex Necrons you'll pick up on it if you're paying attention to the army list "common" information (I've said too much already).

Every army mentioned had armour with it too, so it wasn't pure assault troops doing the rounds. Something along the lines of "good all rounder with tendencies towards up-close-and-personal"

It doesn't matter which army, what matters is the mix of troops you take for those 2000pts. Any army can beat any army if the troop mix is correct for exploiting the oppositions weaknesses.

Equip the rhino with the following to make it better

    Hunter-Killer Missile: guess 48" Strenght= ?? AP= ??

Dozer blades: Run over ure opponent

    Pintle-mounted Storm Bottle: Range 24" Strenght= 4 AP= 5

    Extra armour:better protection

Smoke Launchers: never used these so dont know the rules for these

suppose this makes ure rhino a bit better :)

this pool should lead to another - Which army do you use!
as opposed to which army is the best as there are pro's and con's for all armies in 40k!

It really comes down to experience with your army.

I play Orks, and regularly fought Space Marines, Chaos Marines, other Orks, and regular/Dark Eldar. I have regularly lost to each, but I have regularly won against the very same armies.

At the LARP/Wargaming thing at Warpcon in January, My 1500(ish) point Ork Army managed to hold off 4 space marine armies of EQUAL SIZE for the whole game. I may have lost in the end, but it was a very hard fought victory for the other guys.
My point? I'm starting to get pretty good with Orks. But it IS a game of dice rolls, so luck is always going to be the deciding factor...

all armys have strong points and weak points its all down to the gamers skill and not what army he/she collects.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,136 ✭✭✭Pugsley

Sarky, with any Ork or imperial guard army, your army can become impossable to overrun by simply buying LOTS of base troops, a shooty boy costs 8points(or is it 11?) but has toughness 4, mabye get a looted basalisk in there for some heavy spamming, as for imperial guard, you can buy troops for pennies with them, just add the odd lascannon in there and you got some anti tank aswell.

Its when you plan to lauch major attacks that the fun begins.

I think tau are the 2nd best because they can waste any one with fire power especially igs and i even saw some fire warriors beat a chaos ;ord in combat. But the best propally chaos being the good at close combat and fire power not to mension greater daemons.

ok so i play the necron and i have fought plenty of armies and as said before cc will eat through the ranks. however if you realy want a chessy army none can match the cheesy of the necron their cheesier then cheetos. as for the cc a 2000 point army should be capable of handeling any cc battles if they know how to play them all i have to say for cc is MONOLITH end of story they new 5th ed rules made that tank almost untouchable
