Cancellation quirk on Irish EPG

I have just had my Irish sub switched off and I now own the box. ( The year is up)
One thing I have noticed is that if you take out the expired Irish card and reboot after the power has been off for 30 seconds, the Irish channel listings remain on the EPG still in an encrypted state.
I even powered down my box overnight with the card out and the Irish channel listings remain on power up.
This means you cannot access the BBC FTA channels.
(BBC Radio 1-4 and BBC Parliment.)
Lucky I have my FTV cards.:)

i think you have to do a software update with the card out to clear the irish epg.

no you don't. i rebooted it today without a card inserted and all FTA channels were left and RTÉ etc. removed from the EPG

But Mossy, is your Irish card cancelled? I think the problem only happens when you cancel your subscription.
I also downloaded a new S/W version and the Irish channel listings remain.
The only way to fix it is to put in an FTV card.

I have sometimes found that after some cards are cancelled, if you stick them in the box, the box locks up and goes into standby.

The new software saves the EPG of the last card inserted before boot down..

Usualy when you put in the FTV card the EPG changes to that of the inserted card, but somehow during the week I managed to keep the Irish EPG whilst having the BBC card in.. Albeit with "Programme Not Available" on the RTÉ channels. A switch in and out of standby fixed the problem

The last update seemed to change EPG behaviour.

Allegedly, booting the box TWICE with no card at all at all (Power off twice) erases everything... I haven't tried.

It isn't to do with cancelled / or active subscription.

You could allso do Services 4 0 1 New Install (Without phone connected). This *used* to not break anything and sometimes fix bugs.

Or try Reload SW (Hold Backup while Power ON).

There is sure to be some way to get the box to forget the EPG.

It used to be on a box with NO card you did not see ANY pay channels. I've seen same "EPG remembered" phenomenon on UK Cards too now.

You can of course add BBC Radio on "Other Channels".

Remember once the year is up and you cancelled you can re-enable box on any package in a few minutes (unlike getting MMDS / Cable reconnected) and change or cancel again in 1 month notice. Any subsequent sub you don't need phone.

Okay, ireland is a ripoff for ADSL, but the cheapest hi-speed internet (512Kb) you get here in France is about €45 - France Telecom Wanadoo, Tiscali and Club Internet are all at the same price level. To compete with Free's offer of adsl at €30, they have all introduced a new pack of 256kb/s for €30 which is not really hi-speed but at least is available and reliable, unlike Free's package, for which you have to wait months, agree to be bombarded with junk mail + e-mail, they can monitor everything you do online and I have yet to hear of anyone who has managed to get connected with them who has reached the advertised connection speeds/ not lost connectivity at some stage or another. + "Free" are hoping to take over all the local links of those who sign up to them - thus you have to have an FT phone line to get Free ADSL, but you have to agree to hand the said same phone line over to Free when they have the cash to invest...There's no such thing as a free lunch...(Sorry, but your sig liune was really beginning to bug me..!)

And to get back on topic...Sorry I haven't a clue about Irish Sky cards...
