ok i doubt anyone remembers, i posted aaaaages back looking for some album recommendations, but i had no money at the time(horay for being a poor student!) so i finally had some free cash that wasn't going to be spent on alcohol, and i wandered into town and decided to get some albums.
i couldn't remember any album names, so i just looked for some band names. i picked up iced earth, katatonia and dream theater.
haven't given them a proper listen yet, but its sounding very good so far
    wh00t!
    thanks guys!

(yes i am very aware this is a pointless post)

Dream Theatre and Iced Earth - 2 bloody great choices there!

There seems to be alot of In Flames going about these boards now, so if you want to try them I would strongly advise it, bit heavier than the other bands there (quite a lot actually...) but I love it :)

Nightwish are also a biggy atm, finnish power metal with opera singer - another superb band.

ye i kind of want to start listening to heavier stuff, anyone recommend stuff along the lines of slayer? (that and dillinger escape plan is the heaviest stuff i listened to, if you consider dillinger to be music :p )

i'd give inflames a shot, good enough to tour with slayer, any album of theirs particularly recommended?

Take your pick between Whoracle, Colony, or Clayman. The Jester Race is a GREAT album too but you need to hear the other stuff first cos it takes time to get into the Jester Race. You just fall in love with the others straight away.

Arch Enemy and Sentenced would be two other GREAT choices. You can only really get their stuff in the Sound Cellar though. But you might be able to get their newer stuff in HMV.

Yeah, and pay about 30 euro for it! :D

Have a listen to the new Vader album.
There's a great song on that called 'The Code'.

I might buy that album. I'm goin to Dublin on Friday to get a few cds. I'm mainly looking out for some Sentenced, Meshuggah, Dark Angel, Nile and Decapitated. I might get that aswell though.

Whats yer opinions on Decapitated AW? I hear they play 15 rhythms in some of their songs. That should be worth a listen!

Dont bother your arse with Decapitated, they're hugely over-rated. For you, I'd say to get...

    New Myrkskog.
    That'll ****ing blow you away!

hmmm... Just looking at that name makes me think that they are a snare 1000000 times per second type of band. I'll download a few songs and then I'll make up my mind.

No no... Double-bass all the way, at unbeleivable speeds!

Get the song 'Domain Of The Superior'

And bold Pornapster, downloading music is naughty.

got In Flames - Whoracle yesterday, im only warming to idea of a consant lead through all the songs. Food for the Gods, Dialogue With the Stars, Episode 666 and the extra track Clad In Shadows really stand out imo.

cost me 23 yoyos in sound cellar, but its a "deluxe edition", has a bonus track, a video clip of Jotun, load a pics and wallpapers and winamp skins and screensavers, if only my bloody cd drive would stop crashing my pc

get The Jester Race first, way better than any other In Flames album, much more serious music, and what ever you do, don't get Reroute to Remain lol

    check out some "blind guardian"

or "demons and wizards" which you shoyuld be able to find in that metal music shop beside subway off grafton st.

demonds and wizards is the singer from blind guardian, and the guitarist from iced earth, so it's a blending of both styles... and it works.. oh god how it works

Hmmm- resurecting an old thread- but what the hell.....

I'm a big Catatonia fan too- at the moment am playing Scissorsisters, Aqualung (Dying to hear Strange and Beautiful live) and Dido on a loop as I wait for Marley Park.

    Listening to at the moment-

Dido - Life for Rent (she gets even better)
Anastacia - Anastacia (what a voice)
Stranglers - La Folie (esp tracks 9,10,12, and esp 17)
Divine Commedy - A short album about love
Kate Bush - James and the cold gun ep
    Shrek 2 - Soundtrack

PORNAPSTER - If you want some serious grindcore check out
    Dead Infection
    Emeth
    Cattle Decapitation
    Prostitute Disfigurement
    Infected Flesh
    Rzeznia
    Smothered Brothers
    Waco Jesus

I only recently start listening to this music - got fed up with mainstream metal

Are Katatonia still going? I saw them in the Shelter a few years ago and kept meaning to check out some of their cd's.

They sure are, they played Eamon Dorans last year too...check out Brave Murder Day or Last Fair Deal Gone Down, both are absolute classics IMO. Latest one, Viva Emptiness is good too.
