Anyone read Official Irish PSX Mag?

OIPM was launched last Wednesday but as of yet I have been unable to pick up a copy at my local newsagents. A problem many other people I have talked to over the net have had.

The publishers assure me the magazine was released so has anyone read a copy? And, if so, is it any good?

There was a big stack of them in GAME today.

The actual coverage of stuff in it seems pretty good - I had a leaf through and there's some good stuff. However, looking at the list of contributors, it struck me that a hell of a lot of the people working on it don't seem to be Irish. I'd be happy to be corrected on this point, of course, but if I'm right, then the question has to be asked, what's the point in OPSM Ireland, if huge lumps of it are going to be written by UK journos? It isn't like there aren't plenty of games writers in this country...

I'm no fan of OPSM in any incarnation, mainly because I dislike its constant use as Sony's mouthpiece; I think it's unhealthy for a major-league publication to be so closely tied in to an enormouse vested interest like that. However, I wish the (Irish) guys at OPSM Ireland all the best with their mag. In the end, it can only be good for gaming in this country.

    Ja,
    Rob

If you look even closer you will see that it is a tied magazine of Future Publishing which means that at least some of the Journos are going to be UK based.

    *shrugs*
I still wish them well but consoles were never my thing tbh...

I realise that Devore. But what is the point of having an Irish magazine, if all the reviews and previews are by English writers?

It wasnt an argument, I was merely pointing the fact out.

To get a company like Future to work with you, you have to work with them. I'm sure its a business decision.

Still, who cares what nationality the reviewer is so long as the reviews are decent. The news and articles are something else but... reviews... sure we read them on the net from americans all the time...

    DeV.
