    Hi,
I read on the news, that from the first of January, all European Fishing vessels, will be left fish in the box, (The box being a 50 mile zone around the coast where all irish fish breeds) if this happens there won't be a fish left in our river not a mind the sea, according to the spanish media some 200 extra boats are preparing to come in here and plunder the whole lot, this can't go on, the irish (us) are preparing to confront the spanish outside in the box. Ie. this could mean trouble, we must protest against the spanish raping our natural resources.

E-mail the E.u and greenpeace and the egits up in Dail Eireann about this.

    Regards netwhizkid

    Hmm.

I agree, not only because overfishing of Irish waters is threatening the fish stocks of the same, but because I am of the opinion that it is only really 'Irish' people who should be allowed to fish in Irish waters, but lets not go there.

Ecologically speaking, the overfishing that the EU has allowed to take place in Irish waters to date, has created a near catastrophy, one which I'm quite sure the Irish government would never have allowed to come to fruition, had the call been an Irish one, first and foremost.

Then again, perhaps the great intellectuals, who saw fit so cede Irish territorial fishing rights away and the same great intellectuals who saw fit to build a road throught Carrick Mines, would see no problem in allowing 'our European partners' to fish species to the brink of extinction in Irish waters.

"Sure, we're all neighbours after all".

Without getting into the politics of it, the thing that I really can't figure out is the the EU want to drasticaly reduce the amount of ships currently fishing in EU waters yet want more into an already overfished area.

    Go figure!

We should of course mention that Irish boats are free to fish in SPANISH waters.........

The real underlying problem for Europe's fishermen/women is that be they Spanish, Irish or French there are too few fish for too many fishermen/women
