Irish Racing pulled from Racing Channel

Irish racing has been pulled from the Racing Channel. It is not a technical difficulty as SIS are still showing Limerick today. I read about a week ago in the Racing Post that contractual difficulties had come up between Horse Racing Ireland and the Racing Channel. It was a 7-month free trial that both the Racing Channel and Attheraces were able to use when they wanted. However the article said that the contract was up on Dec 31 and after that they wanted an up front fee from both of them. Neither came up with the required amount in a meeting last week. Horse racing Ireland must be very angry as they have terminated the feed 5 days early.

I haven't been watching to see what is on - but Racing's text service indicates that Irish racing for Friday is highlights from Thursday (although Sky EPG states both are live).

This might pave the way for RTÉ to show Irish racing on the RTÉ UK channel, if it goes on the air as planned around about Paddy's Day.

Well, today, Leopardstown was flagged as being covered on the Racing Channel, but I didn't check to see what they were actually showing.

Also, for the Racing Channel to survive, it would be in their interests to get the Irish coverage, as they only have 10 of the GB race tracks, attheraces have the 49 others... I don't think there is that much of an appetite for South African racing...

Well today they were showing Leopardstown but said they could only show delayed coverage of Limerick (showed at around 5) due to 'contracutual difficulties'. The Irish Field said yesterday that Horse Racing Ireland expected both Attheraces & The Racing Channel to make new bids for Irish Racing. We will see what happpens on Tuesday & Wednesday. (Limerick & Leopardstown were both live on SIS today.)

Someone I know who works in racing told me today that it was Limerick Racecourse themselves that stopped The Racing Channel broadcasting the pictures of Limerick. They if it was on it would affect attendance. In fact he told me that Horse Racing Ireland have the same view and think that putting it on the Racing Channel was a mistake. So they'd actually prefer if there was no new bids.

Back to the betting shop if you want to see Irish Racing. It has been blanked from the Racing Channel as of today.

Quick question, g/f's da is REALLY in to the racing, and now wants to get it on digital. Channel 418 or something? What package would this be available with?

The Racing Channel, where the Irish Racing was predominately on, is free to air, on channel 410.

attheraces, which has the majority of British racecourses, is available with a Sky Family Pack Subscription, on channel 418.

Are Irish race meetings broadcast on 'At the Races' channel?

They had the same contract as The Racing Channel but chose only to use it for big races. They now want to buy exclusive rights for Irish racing but only show some of it live as they want to concentrate on British Racing which is making it very attractive to HRI. Still they have said they will bid for South African & French racing. A friend told me that mallow racecourse was packed today. So maybe HRI's plan has worked.
