swapping UK FTA & Irish Sub cards on box - reliable ?

I've got an activated UK FTA card which receives ITV and Ch4 and Ch5 on my Panasonic box. My Irish Sky card (married to the box) works ok too.

I'm trying to figure out the most reliable sequence of events so I can swap the cards and bring up the correct EPG. Right now what's happening is that the UK EPG can often take a long time to appear (though I can usually access channels directly by entering the channel number).

Is there a sequence I should follow rather than simply swapping the cards and going to the EPG menu ?

I've heard that the best way to swap is on a common channel, such as 181 the Travel Channel or 501 for Sky News.

Thats correct, if you use a common FTA channel like Sky news , the swap will work instantly.
ie; if you take out your Irish card while watching Sky news and put in the FTV one, and type in 101, you will have BBC 1 immediately and the other channels.
Programme info , takes a few seconds longer to come up but viewing channels is instant.

The most reliable way to swap is:
    1) Press Guide, but don't select a submenu
    2) Swap card
    3) Select All Channels. EPG will update to BBC on 101 or RTE on 101 depending on Swap.
    4) Select desired channel

    thanks everyone - much appreciated.

The only reason I have cablelink at the moment is so I can receive Channel4. If I know I can get it reliably on my sky box then I'll be giving them the elbow in January.
