Drunk pirate, what you posted is a solo, not really shredding.

To even begin Shredding make sure you're proficent in:

    Alternate picking
    Scales, Modes
    Sweep Picking
    Apreggios

Here is an example which uses these techniques.

    e|
    10-13-12
    B|
    9-10
    10
    11-10-
    G|
    9
    10-9
    10
    D|
    10
    10--12
    A|--12
    E|

    e|----12
    13---17~~~-16
    B|
    12----13
    15
    G|--9----13----14
    14
    D|
    15-12
    A|
    12-8----
    E|

Here's a little something to stretch that little pinky

Be sure to use all four fingers!

Don't know if that is shredding but it's good for getting your fore and third finger independent of their neighbours.
hah apologies that isn't how it seems. The 1324 relates to what order you should play the fret ie. First fret with first finger then third fret with third and then 2nd fret with forefinger (ooerr fore and four getting close to confusing things).

As with every exercise - flip it over turn it upside down and do it backwards ad infinitum etc etc
