Eircom package a lot of money, says Taoiseach

THE severance package given to the former chief executive of Telecom was an "extraordinarily large amount of money", the Taoiseach said in the Dail last night.

Socialist TD Jim Higgins said the €4.5m package had scandalised ordinary people and outraged in particular the people who had been lured by the Government to invest in the privatisation process and then heavily lost much of their savings.

He said the former minister and now leader of the Seanad, Mary O'Rourke, did not have a shred of credibility when she "whined" on national radio about the scandal.
"But the problems here are when they become privatised, how directors like those who we have seen getting €3.8m in the last day or two, run riot indeed, in paying themselves vast sums of money," Mr Ross added.

    *SHOCK*

Did anyone catch the Joe Duffy programme yesterday where people were invited to sing satyrical songs about it including "Eircom all ye faithful" etc. They also had an impersonation of Mary O Rourke.

The sad thing is that only 300,000 euros is being spent on last mile wireless broadband in Ireland. Just think what could be done with the money that is going in Kane's pocket.
