What to do with your old mobile phone!

    Hi

Here's an interesting request/proposal. A friend of mine is collecting phones for the newsroom staff of the Daily News in Zimbabwe. This is an independent newspaper that has been bombed and harassed by the Mugabe government.

There is a GSM phone network in Zimbabwe but handsets are very expensive. I'd be delighted to take any old handsets, rechargers, batteries etc.off you. Even if they are not in perfect condition, they can still mean that someone is just that little bit safer over there. As journalists are frequently beaten or even murdered and being able to call for help could make the difference between life and death.

A 'courier' is going to Harare on the 8th Jan so if you get that super-dooper yoke from the Vodafone ad for Christmas, at least you now know what to do with your old model!

That's a nice Idea! I think I have an old one lying around at home I'll try and dig it out.
