I was thinking about setting up a poll and asking for ppl to vote for their favourite goalkeeper error but there's so many that maybe it would be better to create a collection of classic errors...just thought it was topical..(dudek etc)..and could be a bit of fun-the board just seems so quiet atm-anyone see butt's o.g last nite?
Or enkleman(vs birmingham) and last wkend when he almost threw the ball into his own goal?
Of course seaman will feature too...

Butts was a classic, don;t know where Crespo was off to celebrating as if he scored!

    So you have:

Dudek - who will ever forget it!
    Enckleman
    Butt
    Seaman - Nayem
    Seaman - Ronaldino
Seaman - must be 3 or 4 more!!
Taibi - spread ur legs baby
David James - I am sure there are a few

What about barthez (vs west ham) when he ran out waving his arms at di canio?

going by my own team sheffield wednesday, 2 spring to mind by the evergreen kevin pressman

1.fa cup final replay last minute 1993 , he pushed andy linighans tame header in to the roof of the net.(being the final made it all the worse)

2.getting sent off in the opening 13 seconds against wolves on the opening day of the season a few years back.

and barthez a couple of times in the champions league aswell - or when blanc ducked under the ball to let it go for barthez and noel whelan thought all his xmas's had come at once

Remember when Newcastle were playing Everton I fink it was. Given gathered the ball, waited for his players to push up, then threw the ball to the ground to launch an attack.

But poor Given never looked around him before he fropped the ball to the ground, striker runs around and smacks ball into empty net. Oh dear!!! who'd be a goal keeper.

A little off the topic but when you think goal keepers, you think goal posts and then you remeber Philip Babb on a collision course.
I still cringe every time I see that.

me in 1985 in Croke Park against Star of the Sea in schoolboy Gaelic punching opposing player and getting sent off after my 2 footed lunge failed to take him down, his fault for trying to nutmeg me in a gaelic match :)

oh you mean paid mistakes Schmeichels sliced clearance against someone a few years back.

What about the keeper who tried to kick the ball out, but in between dropping the ball and kicking it Gearge Best stole in, took it off his toe and lobbed him to score a goal. Very cheeky by Bestie.

Bit sketchy on this, but it involved a Notts Forest keepr (think it was Crossley) gathering a ball on the ground, then rolling himself over the line and dropping the ball into the net.

Not really a goal keeping blundr but I always get a laugh out of seeing Bruce Grobbelar and Steve Mc manamam slapping the face off each other.

That was against coventry and it was Deon Dublin who scored it. The way it happened was that Dublin was off the pitch to recive treatment and the ref had called him back on but Given hadnt realized so.....

Who remembers Spain Nigeria world cup 98 when whatever his name was was beat on his near post by a ball which wasnt never going in and he palmed it into his own net.

Also Bufons help for Andy Griffin recently against Newcastle.

Shay Given rollin the ball out to kick it and Dion Dublin coming from behind him to tap it in.

I remember the Tim Flowers one, (think it was last day of the season, and the ball hit a bobble and bounced up over him.
    That was a good 'un.

    Dave Beasant_1897531_aldo300.jpg

Although saved Aldo's penalty never really got to grips with Norwich lame long ball attacks one year...

Chelsea went 2-0 up and then in the second half Dave made 3 bloopers that would make any goal keeper cringe!

    Norwich won 3-2

and Dave went home and sat there watching the 10 o'clock news to find out that the Chelsea manager had given a press conference during the day saying that Dave would never play in goal for chelsea again!

Being a Liverpool fan i can remeber a many an occasions where I have jumped from my seat screaming profanaties at David "Calamity" James!

Not strictly a goalkeeping error but the sight of an overweight Bosnich running around topless while waiting for someone to find a shirt for him in the old trafford gift shop is a memory ive tried hard to repress :)

Also neil sullivan letting in beckhams shot from the half way line was easily as bad as seamans error....no, honest it was :)

Packies "Donegal Catch" in WC 94 was particularly horrific as well :(

I have recollections of a keeper throwing the ball straight into his own net as he forgot to let go quickly as he spun round, intending to chuck it well outside the area.

    Mike.

Searrad watched 'Football years 1992/1993' :)

Think it was schmeichel in the champions league a few years abck for Man u. He threw the ball out and it hit the back of an opponents foot outside the box. He calmly turned and put it in.

Can't for the life of me remember who man u were playing.
It;s funny thinking back on it tho :p

and for him to do it again a week later against david batty for newcastle made it all the more comical

I think the keeper throwing the ball into his own goal was Crossley for Forest, and Schmeichels blunder was against Bayern in a 2-2 draw in the group stages in 1998/99 CL. He was not exactly blameless in the second goal either. Sir Alex sent him on a mid season Holiday after that, he came back refreshed and we all know what happened from there.

enklemans shouldnt really qualify all the same... seeing as it shouldve been a corner and not a goal, as he obviously didnt touch the ball

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭Waylander

He obviously did not know that if you look at his face he thought it was a goal, and I am glad it was, he deserved to be punished for such negligence.

youd be surprised at the amount of people, professional footballers or not, who dont know that its not a goal if it goes straight in from a teammates throw

You cant forget the error Barthez made against Deportivo when him and Brown got in each others way!!!! and then you've got the instance when Barthez came out to the edge of the 18 box and missed the ball to let Henry score the easiest goal of the season!!!!
