    Just announced:

Tonights Newcastle Vs Barcelona game has been called off at the last minute by the referee. The reason quoted was an 'unplayable waterlogged pitch'.

Newcastle might be happy about it.

Any chance of Shearer or Bellamy being fit to travel next week?

Strange that the Nou Camp didn't have adequate drainage.

Its a pity its been called off. It would have been a great match to watch .... or even see the highlights of, since crappy TV3 decided to show boring boring Arsenal instead.

Hopefully they will - I've got a tenner on Newcastle to win at 7-1 :)

I thought the reason they werent playing tonight was cos they were suspended? Wasnt bellamy sent off last week? and shearer was cited after the game for striking cannavaro? wouldnt matter if they were fit or not....

To see it live, it would seem you'll need to have the ITV News channel.

Yeah, my mistake. I remembered the real reason for them being out later on. Bellamy has been injured so much of late that I instantly assumed it was another niggle.

Sorry to get the Newcastle fans hopes up.
(That said they really should know why they're out ;) )

As for the lack of drainage ... I presume the normal weather in Barcelona makes the pitch very hard and ompacted under the surface removing most of the natural drainage. I saw some pictures of the pitch last night and there was a half-inch of standing water on most of the pitch and the rain was coming very hard.

Pity, it would have been a very good match. I'd say Bobby Robson is a bit dissapointed too having his big return to thr Nou Camp called off :(

Well 3-1 is a good enough result for Barcelona.
Still have their 100% record too.
Just another 10 weeks till they get to play again now.
