well what would you reasonably expect to pay seen as THIS IS IRELAND

I voted €60 and 150 installation. Seems reasonable enough. €15 euros a week for 24/7 broadband access. Good enough for me.

Ask yourself what were really going to learn from this poll please.

It would just show how much the irish market are prepared to pay, and maybe some nice people would come along and take their advice

(rocking the polling boat a little (sorry:))

1024/1024 would be SDSL (or S-HSDL using the G.shdsl standard ratified by the ITU in Feb 2001 to be precise), allowing for up to 2.3Mps (2355kps) up AND down.

1024/1024 is far closer to the technical limit of SDSL (2.3Mps/2.3Mps) than 1024/256 would be to the technical limit of ADSL (8.0Mps/1.0Mps) and hence would be expected to be a fair bit more expensive than any ADSL offering we'll see on this island in the next few years.

S-HDSL equipment is cheaper (partly because it uses the older CAP/QAM standard) but you do have to pay for the extra upstream bandwidth. I don't even think any US ISPs are currently offering SDSL faster than 768/768.

Any poll result you'll get using 1024/1024 in the question will therefore be skewed - it won't affect any reality as almost everyone will base their answers on "getting ADSL" rather then "getting an extremely high-range SDSL product that few (if any) providers are offering anywhere". This is one of the reasons I still find that government promise of 5Mbit connections for all of us by 2005 so funny.
