Right, story is, I've got cable rihgt. I want ed to leave the comp on 24/7 but the thing is, the comp seems to power of after so many hours.. and disconnect from irc, msn, etc. I've disalbled thefeature "power off to save power" function for the cable modem I've also turn off the feature "power of hard diskc after xx mins"…

go to bios, turn off power management completely in there (aka ACPI sometimes)

also make sure that a standby activity called hibernation is turned off as well as simply standby, if Hibernate is not available as an option in the power control panel then it is not an issue.
