    Question

Anybody here actually watch Irish soccer our support the Eircom league or are you all Man U, Liverpool fans?

Ever hear of teams like ShamrockRovers, Cork, DerryCity....?????????

I mean I really don't understand it, you people pick a random team in England and decide to support it buying all the craap British Hats n T-Shirts

Is there anyone here who supports our own soccer league are is ths place full of Anglo-Saxon Sunshine supporters

    Question

Is this really an Irish soccer site?

This is a soccer site not a Irish soccer site.

Most ppls here follows the english game except bateman
who is a big Eircom League man, so maybe you should look for his posts.

If you read any of the threads on this board you would know the answer to this question.
The majority of people here dont follow EL.
Off hand I can think of Bateman, Pigman and KdjaC that do.

well i think everybody here follows it but not to the same degree as some other people i think pretty much anyone here could tell u the state of the table and stuff at the moment

And does your newspaper have 7 or 8 pages about Pat Fenlons new haircut ???

    No publicity no fans.

Btw im a season ticket holder with St Pats before you flame me for being an Anglo Saxon or somfin.

I heard of them, i've been to see them, (and watched a few of the telly) and ive come away dissapointed. The stadia were ****e
The level of skill was not as good as i had hoped. The were more people out cheering the budget, than i saw at some of the games ...
The product is not good enough (for me).
I woould still follow the league in a vague sense, hoping Shels can catch the leaders .. but I wouldnt shell out my cash, or spend my nites out following them .. for the above reasons.

There have been plenty of discussions on how to improve things domestically, but I reject your insinuation i am not patriotic. Instead i think the FAI, and the LOI have let me down!

First, Its not an irish soccer site, its an Irish site, dedcated to football.

As fo why i started following English league footie ...
For me, the internatioal team was my big lure into football, (all started for me in '88). I was just 16. I wanted to watch my team ... but they werent playing here they were english based. So I started watching and cheering on English league footie.

Natural, predictable, and the FAI have never done anything to change it.
Now the only times i frequent LOI grounds, is to see the preseason friendlies.

got to be jokin, like watching paint dry lookin at an EL match.

We enjoy watching teams play entertaining, fast soccer. This does not happen in the EL

A tad incorrect , As with any league there good matches and there are bad bad dire rank matches.
I have seen as many bad english matches as i have seen bad irish matches.

All leagues are equal in that they server just as many decent games as they do bad ones.

If Arsenal or United arent playing most english matches are desperate same in Ireland.

Bohs and Shels and Pats( depending on how Pats feel at the time:( )are playing they can be very good games.

Best match i ever seen ,Pats Vs Slovan Bratislava 6 years ago Pats lost 4-3 ,same season 3-3 with Bohs (yah swanny scored a fookin hatrick ,damn heard that enough times)

I am waiting on Rovers to finish their staduim and then I will frequent their ground and become more familiar with the Eircom League. However,I will not become one of these ars*holes who sneers at people because they watch the English leagues though. According to your post here and in another thread it is fine to watch European soccer but bad to watch English soccer. I don't get your logic there. Most of us started watching the English game and supporting the English clubs because of the Irish players at that club. For example I am a Man Utd supporter because as a kid I was a huge fan of Frank Stapleton and Paul Mc Grath. So please do not try and lecture us for supporting an English team out of some arrogant misplaced sense of patriotism. If you do want to discuss EL football all you have to do is start a thread on the relevant topic and i am sure people will discuss it with you.

Get a Mayo team into the League and I may start to support them otherwise I guess I would just have to pick a random team and start to buy their crap hats and shirts, and watch their games.

    Anything else ?

BTW as far as I am concerned, Derry are a british team.

Seen that you are from Dublin then do you not have a local team??

Cannot see Castlebar Celtic or Manualla or Westport United making it for a while yet :D

I am not from Dublin Yop.

Castlebar Celtic did have a team in the lower divisions but pulled out because of the expense. Manulla is how the village is spelled.

    Anything else ?

Ok, sorry, but you are not from Mayo either??

There is no team in Mayo that will get anywhere near the EL - shame though, I am sure I would support them if they were

    Answer:

No, its a bulletin board based in Ireland with a mostly irish membership.

    Question:

Are you a raving lunatic with some sort of republican/anti-english agenda like all the rest of your banned buddies?

(Gandalf, this guy is associated with the korean/NUIG multiple/tinfoil underpant/conspiracy theorist banned accounts)

Thanx 4 The Fish , why not support your neighbouring Eircom League side , Galway United ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Would that not be just like picking any team, we have Sligo close by too and Longford, why should I pick one over the other ?

Would be just like picking my favourite team at random, which is I believe what BJJ was against in the first place...

Umm, nah, put it this way what chances are there of us travelling to Sligo or Galway to see a league match when we can watch united or lpool on the box, it is easier to support an english team when you do not have a local EL team.

Ironically that is probably one of the best reasons to be an EL fan.
    Away games :)

Cheaper than a night out in Dublin.

Drive to Sligo 2.5 hours ,park car in B and B, go game, go beer, go nightclub ,go try and find b and b ,up next day drive home and still cheaper than pub and club in Dublin City.

    Dammit Sligo win promotion :)

Unfortunately for us, in that situation every game is an away game and the piss-ups would be far too frequent. And since we do nopt have to pay Dublin rates for beere in Mayo, there is not much advantage.

Simple reason for me is that the irish league isnt in anyway as entertaining as the english league. The level of skill and orginisation isnt as good thats all.
