Are you afilliated with the real 2600 group?

Well, you're on topic here, but I think last time people got annoyed because it was cross-posted ...

good question etho_ ... well the answer is yes and no , we are keeping in with the tradition, but we have to build up a reputable image and appearance..

in other words if the 2600 magazine advertises the meets as official (which we hope they will in the future - and i cannot see why they won't ) and they are a passing fad its not a sensible step,

when the meets become stable and are on a continous uptake then they will be advertised and made official

so yes they are keeping in with the other meets but we need to make them known and recogised as for the mag..

Well, you're on topic here, but I think last time people got annoyed because it was cross-posted ...

um ..yes, posted about them in the worthwhile folders, security, technology , unix, wireless , nets/comms

they are all more or less what the people will want or teach to others themselves :)

Wasn't there an attempt like this made by #hackers_ireland before? but then they turned into #h_i meetings and didn't want anything to do with 2600? I'm not here to flame - don't get me wrong. But i do know emmanuel and the 2600 folk, and i think it was a waste of money even registering 2600.ie. I'm all for the meetings, but trying to be affiliated with 2600 is silly. Emmanuel is just a journalist. He said in the DMCA trial that he can't code. My point is just be yourself, don't try to be 2600. I think i could be flamed for this, but if you knew what i did about how clueless 2600 really is you'd think differently. theciscokid - pm me if you like. i have logs.

well sjones ~ yes it will be hard setting them up, but i reckon they'll be worth it in the long run,

true people tried to set up meets before using the 2600 name, but had merged with others and wanted it held on a sat morning as far as poeple have been telling me...

its the name that attracts attention more than others, and besides i like the mag, i like the show emanu hosts, whether he can code or not is really irrelevant , true he's the editor but its the content that proves worthy enough to justify meeting new friends and discovering technology

if there was a 2600 group set up here already it would be great but theres not,

some of the other meets held worldwide have been going for over 10 years now including the london one, whether or not they are still as associated or affiliated as much as they were is really a cosmetic thing and is really up to them..

at the end of the day if you like reading the mag and want something to look forward to every month, i.e. a laugh and a few beers come along
