    right
myself and mr.nolegs ahd another one of our silly arguments last night at the 66e gig. johnny decided to jokily piss us off by telling us that when lead singers play bass the band/song automatically becomes crap. i challenged this. he asked me to name 10 famous bands who's leadn singer played bass. i came up with 3:

    the beatles
    level 42
    the police

come on people lets beat johnny down ;););)

i know theres a famous female singer out there who does, just cant think who it is, is it roxette???? drat!!!!

in fairness johnny u didnt say that last night u just called them crap-i know u were trying to rile us up, im not trying to put u down r anything

i dont think having a bass playing lead singer is a contributing factor to them not succeeding. if they have the talent, they will succeed. if u look at all the bands who have failed, i think you'll finds that there is just as little bass playinglead singers in comparison to those who play ryhthm, lead or none at all.

Oh yeah... Thin Lizzy... just kidding. Somebody say Sting... or the Police again.

There was a coversy band that used to play around called "the great escape" Their lead guy played bass. But they were actually just covers... so booo for them.

What about drummers who were lead / main men...

    Phil Collins... excuse me.
    and eh...

    ah.. I'm going home.

    Keith

Brian Wilson from the beach boys did both. Whaddabout Bootsy Collins - he did it too and with such class. The lead singer of Morphine, whose name escapes be. He plays a two string bass and sings (other members are drums and sax).

Hey these bands all together would make a interesting compliation album, don't you think?

I myself used to be the frontman playing bass, along time ago, now I've retreated to just backing vocals.

    - The Doves,
    - The Presidents of The United States of America ( well both played modified basses)

I was waching a 'Where are they now' thing over the weekend and I noticed that Deep Blue Something (the ones who sang Breakfast at Tiffanys) have a bass playing lead vocal.

Not sure if you want to add that to your list though!
