I think it would be counter productive to drop him now. I reckon Liverpool would lose a good keeper, cause he would not be able to get his confidence back while on the bench. To my mind you should not rotate keepers and in form strikers at all if you can help it. However it should be borne in mind that Dudeck was very poor in the world cup too. Maybe last season he just had a freakishly good season and the real Dudeck is coming out now.

Have to say i agree with u completely Waylander except for the freakish good season last year he wouldn't have been bought if he was a bad keeper

It is not right for Gerry H to drop him.

Drawing a parallel with man utd here. Barthez went threw a dodgy patch last season. Sir Alex Drunk-a-son stuck by him and left him in the team.

Gerry H should do the same. Stand by yer man! Dudek was the best keeper in the premiership last year.

Of course he shoud be dropped.

He's cost Liverpool a lot of points by his lack of concentration of late.

A spell on the bench will not only do him a world of good but will be a chance for Kirkland to get some first team experience.

Even if Kirkland messed up once/twice a game, he'd still be no worse than Dudek is at the moment.

Kirkland has been promised a run of several games it seems, asumming he does'nt do anything stupid.(!)

Its tough on Dudek, who has been a great buy (he cost less than Kirkland), but Houllier will have taken the view that Liverpool, with a huge number of games in the next 5 weeks, cannot afford any more needles errors, and while a couple of goals were not his fault, a few definitly were.

Kirklands done nothing wrong so give him a go, thats why he's there.

    Mike.

Dudek has been excellent for Liverpool since he was bought with very few mistakes until recently (Perhaps the most desirable quality in a keeper). I reckon a few matches on the bench will do him good. It's usually the case that keepers raise their standards again after a break from 1st team action.

On a similar note Shay Given would want to watch his back or Steve Harper might get the no. 1 slot back.

Im undecided as yet. It could be just a bad patch. But we all know that GH is not afraid to rotate keepers or just put them on the transfer list straight away. Westerveld got a going over from him remember. Dudek was the best in the premiership last year IMO but then again the pool had a very stable defence too. I reckon Kirkland should get the worthington cup and FA cup games to give him experience and prove himself.

I think he should get a spell on the bench.
Then again i didn't want barthez benched cos i knew how good he really could be. ( ie save like that vs Liverpool).

I think Kirkland should have a go at least, tell Dudek to get his **** together.

OT: i love the names you people come up with. Alex Drunk-a-son,
    Diego Nogoalan etc.
    ****ing brilliant :)

Remember everyone was calling for Seaman to be dropped after a few errors? Remember the way Wenger didnt drop him? See the way Arsenal are top?

I think he should be dropped.
For the greater good of the team. Remember Hyppia and Henchoz will lose confidence too if Dudek stays in goal. There is nothing worse than being a defender and lacking confidence in your goalie.
Give Kirkland a run, I'm sure he'll prove himself well.
As for Barthez not getting dropped, Utd didnt exactly have a great goalkeeper as a replacement for him.
    Liverpool imo do.

He fluffs against Middleborough, everyone makes mistakes, we'll forgive him. He couldn't have gifted Basle a better goal, palm it anywhere, accept into the feet of an on-coming striker. Proves he's learned nothing by doing the same thing against Fulham. And then finally a most unforgivable, and unforgettable display against our old rivals.

Conceeding two goals against 'The Goal Machine' Diego Scorlan is simply not acceptable. His error for the first goal was almost as spectacular as Enklemans error earlier on in the year.

Anyone remember Westerveld? Great keeper, we won the treble, poor performance against Bolton, cheerio....

Give Kirkland a chance, not like we're short.

Yes, he should be dropped. He's a very good keeper, and seems sensible enough not to fall to pieces just because he's not in the first team for a while. The problem for him is that it may not be a while. Kirkland looks like he might simply be a better goalkeeper (Tord Grip says he's England's most talented, or similar words) so Jerzy might not get back in.

That would be a shame for him, but he couldn't really complain - if he was in any other position, Kirkland would have been tried out properly a long time ago. Goalkeepers always seem to be treated with kid gloves because of what's seen as their alarmingly precarious psychological states.

I don't think Liverpool should follow ManU thinking on this. Barthez continues to make bizarre mistakes every so often, but maybe Ferguson views this as an amusing distraction from more mundane cares or something. He's often had a prediliction for slightly unhinged keepers, for his own obscure reasons no doubt.

I reckon that a spell on the sidelines will help Dudek find his confidence again. If he continues to play in the Liverpool team at the moment the attension (opoosition fans and media) would be too much to bear.
Dudek will have to fight to get his place back and that means impressing in training and reserve games, and that will have a knock on effect for his first team performances. Given was drpped for a couple of games last season and when he got back in the Newcastle team he was superb!

On another note what is it with Liverpool and dodgy 'keepers?

They have to be on the take! How can someone so consistent, suddenly turn brutal, even D James is playing well no for West Ham (cant even remember his last clanger for the hammers).

i dont think he should be dropped.yeah he made a few howlers but being dropped could destroy his confidence.if i was him id be be just as nervous with the state of the liverpool defence, not only is he only lacking in confidence he cant have any confidence in the back four either.the return of henchoz cant come quick enough.i remember watching him for feyenoord and he was excellent.he was solid throughout polands world cup qualifying.and when liverpool did sign him they had to fight off arsenal for his signature.

    normal service will resume shortly

His howlers were nothing to do with the defence though, was just poor inexplicable keeping. How does a keeper jump through a Football, miss it completly, and blame a defender for it? :) Carraghers back pass was soft, and an easy claim, so no excuses there...

Why palm a free out into the six yard box? Any keeper should know, this is not a smart thing to do. Barthez saved a similiar shot from Baros, his resulted in a throw to Liverpool.

His confidence is already shattered, no point in leaving him in goal to be opened up by every striker in the country (if Scorlan managed two joker goals, anyone can), Kirkland is more then capable of stepping up, and could well keep the No1 spot for the next ten years.

Yes he should be dropped. That's why you have 2 top class keepers if one is out of form play the other.
I don't see how being dropped will mean he turns into a bad keeper! It should help him get his focus back.
If Kirkland keeps him out then he will have to deal with it!
Kirkland has been happy to sit on the bench waiting for his chance - that's what Dudek should have to do.

Brad Freidel is the best keeper in the premiership this season too, with the possible exception of Cudiccini at Chelsea. He was an awful muppet when he was at Liverpool.

I think it has something to do with the goalkeeping staff at the pool

Which we just won on penos. Sky were saying his confidence grew as the game went on :-)

Maybe GH played Dudek to boost in confidence a bit. Or maybe he played him as a 'reserve keeper' (ie that used to be Kirklands role, then Kirkland will play on Saturdays in the prem) If you know what I mean?

    Interesting team selection today.

Dudek, Xavier, Babbel, Biscan, Vignal, Smicer, Gerrard, Riise, Diao, Diouf, Mellor.

Roll on villa in the next round.

Glad too see Mellor, Vignal & Biscan getting a run.

Still though, we're making these teams look good :|

Kirkland will be playing the big matches "for the foreseeable future" acording to Houllier. What a strange man.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 184 ✭✭smoke

Jerzey was givin the"vote of confidence" by Houllier for the game against Ipswich. I think it would be crazy to leave him out of the side. i mean, sure he hasn't been in the best of form lately and slipped up against united but he was the best premiership keeper last season and will be right back up there again soon. i think Houllier is a great manager and all but he has made some bad decisions about keepers in the past, just look at Brad Friedel now and what about Westerveld? I thought he was brilliant and then Houllier made him dissapear into the stands!
