    Hi all,

I will be travelling to Asia in January.

does anyone know what vaccinations are required (I know I need a malaria one for Malaysia/Thailand) and if so where in Dublin I could get them?

Will a GP do it or is there a special clinic to go to?

    thanks :)

Heading over to Thailand and Malaysia myself in January, I got my injections in the Tropical Medical Bureau (www.tmb.ie) on Grafton Street.
    Price was reasonable enough too.
I didn't get the malaria one (I'm not going near any high risk areas) so I don't know how much that'll set you back, there's none manditory for those countries AFAIK.

Just so you know, it's recommended you get most of the vaccinations about 6 weeks before you travel so they'll actually take effect.

    heading off in Jan too..
    i'd start them ASAP
    you'll probably
    need the following

    Polio
    Tetanus
    Rabies
    Hepatitus A

    Jap Encephelitus - optional

The injections are done over a period of 3/4 weeks
    so you'd wanna start!

Get malaria tablets if you're going to Koh Chang in thailand but everwhere else in thailand the mozzies are not dangerous.
Don't get the mad ones called Larium as they make some people go nuts.

The Surgery under the chemist on Dame St in town
did our injections and was very cheap considering
.. but then he gave us a prescription for all the malaria
tablets etc and it came to €300 each

get yer arse in gear though, time's a ticking!

I think there's a Malaria risk near the border with Cambodia and also the border with Myanmar too.

I'm not going near those areas anyway, so I saved a few quid.
How much did the injections set you back less the malaria stuff whiteshadow?

Right this is the craic with it..

    There is one called Ravaxis
that is a combo shot, once off that contains

    -Polio
    -Tetanus
    -Diphteria

    Then another once off for
    Hepatitus A
    and one for
    Typhoid

For all the above it was €134 euros including the consultation

    Then there's rabies,
it's basically 3 shots @26 euro per shot
but it's a €10 consultation fee for each time you go
but he can do the first rabies on the same day as doing the first 5.

    So that's what i spent
    €134
    + 3*(26+10)
    the guts of €260

Now you might want to get HepB
especially if you plan to exchange any bodily fluids with ladyboys
;) or get run over and require a blood transfusion!

but the buzz with that is like the rabies..
3 shots, at €30 per go.. and add the €10 consultation fee if applicable!

was this cheap? probably not but im going to fairly high risk areas...

I paid something like that last time. I didn't get the rabies or malaria ones. This time round it was just a booster for Hep. A so it wasn't as expensive.

I am getting the "recommended For All Travellers to Malaysia" this week.

    • Tetanus
    • Hepatitis A
    • Typhoid

    I think it costs €134.

I'm not going to bother with the Malaria one as I have heard bad things about it and I am not going to do any trekking really...........
