This probably isnt on the topic of personal issues but cause of lack of other boards ill ask the question here...

is there any way to make yourself dream at night for definite , or even increase the chance? i dont really have many dreams but when i do i wake up with a mad adrenaline rush...

ive heard people say before dairy products will give you dreams(nightmares?) but i've tried it to an extent and nothing ;)

    anyone got any ideas?

As far as I know, you /always/ dream - it's just whether you remember them or not... and it depends entirely on what stage of a sleep cycle you wake up in. I find that if I'm getting up early in the morning to go to school or whatever, I won't remember dreams at all... whereas if I'm sleeping in I remember loads of different dreams.

yeah dreams that disappear after about 10 minutes are annoying, but the most interesting ones i've had i can still remember perfectly after months, i just want more of them :)

Theres a warning on 24hr nicorette patches, 'may cause nightmares'. They never gave me nightmares! Quite the opposite in fact. Guaranteed 'dirty dreams' every night I had a patch on!:D Couldn't have made these dreams any better even if I was capable of lucid dreaming. They were that good!

Needless to say I didn't quit the weed and developed an unhealthy addiction to nicorette patches aswel!l:D ;)

I hate it when your worst nightmares come true in your dreams...

My car got stolen, blown away in a tornedo and finally was destroyed by vandels for 3 nights in a row. i remember 3 of them clearly enough :(

But the best thing is when you wake up and after the initial few seconds you realise it was just a dream :D

as far as i know it depends on how deep ur sleep is, "r.e.m" sleep is the deepest i think, where u dream constantly. below that images appear for a short time, and below that u slip in and out of consiousness.

Again i think its just a matter of remembering then [i love the dreams u can control, and u know there dreams when there happening :)]

Hate it when I get ideas for a movie or a book and forget them in the morning...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,975 ✭✭✭Oeneus

Something really funny happened this morning.

The dream was that I woke up in the morning, got ready for work, then I actually woke up in reality. I was like "What the f...?"

I got a bit of a shock until I actually realised it was a dream. It was like I blinked and the view in front of me was completely different to what is was before I "blinked".

Another thing that I hate that I constantly get in my dreams is when I am running away from something, I fall over and can never get back up again, I just constantly keep falling.

The scariest and coolest thing is when you imagine things that cant exist like i once imagined a 4d star shape, i remeber remembering it but can't visualise it, it was/is really odd

If you want to remember your dreams keep a little 'dream diary' and a pen beside your bed. as soon as you wake up write down your dream.

Afaik cheese before bed induces nightmares.

The last dream I had was last week. I have been trying to a kiss a certain girl for a few weeks now, and last week I brough her home to my place and we were kissing each other in my living room. Then i woke up. I was so pissed off, it felt *so* real. BAD^ BAD^ BAD^

The wierdest dream i have ever had involved me being drunk and falling over, all my limbs got heavy and i couldnt pick myself up. Then i woke up, and was lying face down on my bed, and i couldn't move my body. It was scary. Then my body woke up a few seconds later. I was in a state of panic after that. Took ages to get back to sleep. Afaik it was caused by sleeping in a bad position and blocking blood.

Deadbankclerk is right about cheese. Also you might want to try a hot and spicey Indian meal an hour or so before sleep. Failing that a big gobfull of payote followed by a shot of smack. If you dont dream after thet your dead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,507 ✭✭✭DamienH

Now that is a truly weird dream

A couple of times I've dreamt that I've won the lottery. Then I wake up and realise it was a dream. My reaction is not unlike the monk in that old lotto ad when the abbot reminds him about his vow of poverty. He breaks his vow of silence when he says, "AH Feck!!". In my version the language is a little more flowery. B*ll*x ......F**Kin.........B*st*rd.....motherF**K*R. I swear to God it puts me in bad form for the rest of the day whenever it happens!:D :D

    DONT SMOKE DOPE..
Its one sure way of not dreaming..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,564 ✭✭✭Typedef

    That's true actually.

THC has the effect of lowering your seratonin levels, that is why Dope smokers need to sleep so much and of course, it keeps you away from REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep.

    http://www.lycaeum.org/drugwar/marij3.html
THC does not differ from conventional hypnotics in reducing rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (136). THC in doses ranging from 61 to 258 ug/kg produces in normal subjects increments in stage 4 sleep and decrements in REM sleep, but without the characteristic REM rebound which follows chronic treatment with hypnotics. When THC was administered p.o. as a solution in doses of 10, 20, and 30 mg, our subjects fell asleep faster after having mood alterations consistent with a "high." Some degree of "hangover" the day following was noted from larger doses (42). Another sleep laboratory study showed that a dose of 20 mg of THC given p.o. decreased REM sleep. After four to six nights of use, abrupt discontinuation of THC produced mild insomnia but not marked REM rebound (52). REM rebound may not be apparent after low doses of THC. However, very high doses (70 to 210 mg) reduced REM sleep during treatment and were followed by marked REM rebound after withdrawal (48).

I find that when i wake up after a dream that if i think about it and think about remembering it then i will for months, if not years.

/me thinks back to the silly old 7/8 year old dreams :)

Write them down as soon as you wake up. When you look back at them in the future it really gives you an idea how weird you actually are.

Is anyone at the opposite end of the scale, and can't stop dreaming? From reading this thread I'm getting the impression most people don't dream too often, seems to be a fairly rare occurance (1 a week, or couple of days). Every morning I wake up, my brain almost creaks under the pressure of what feels like 10's of semi forgotten, semi important dreams.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,975 ✭✭✭Oeneus

I don't dream enough. I mean dream less often than once a week! It pisses me off!

I used to not remember dreams, but lately I've started swapping stories about dreams with a friend who has really clear but cool dreams... my best one involved a sorta pokemon like landscape, loadsa cute little furry things, an elf who seem similar to Legolas and a seal pup who was the son of god... we were trying to restart the human race i recall...

When I was working in a net cafe i was playing about 8 hours of CS a night. I ened up having dreams of awping ppl :D

However, on a more serious note. One of my worst ever dreams is one where something happened which doesnt happen much in dreams im told. Well heres how the story goes.

    !!!!This one is Good!!!!

Im walking down this street. Its one of those dreams where everything is very real I can feel the air on my face and the warmth of the sun shine. Im in Spain some where dont ask me how I know this I just know. Im walking along with this girl we are at least good friend if not a bit more. Again I just know this. There are these people behind us slaging us off, two girls and three guys.
They are English and sound quite common (also certainly drunk). There razzing us quite badly and kinda start clipping the back of out heals and giving us little slaps on the head. Im getting a tad connerned about the situation. So I wisper to the girl walk on into a shop and point one out a few feet away she walks on into the shop. I wip round and say "what the **** guys?" The two girls walk on past and follow the girl I was with into the shop she went to. The three guys grab me and two pin me up against the wall the 3rd takes out one of those stanly knifes. The ones with the realy thin blade that you can push out really far. And puts the blade to my throat. Of course im standing there with my hands up.
The guys looks staright into my eyes and says "Ah **** it I cant be bother with this!" Then he pushs the blade straight into my neck. I can feel that blade slicing in. It hurts a little but probably due to shock not as much as you might think. The two guys let go of me. I stumble away from the wall with my hand to my throat. I can feel hot sticky blood running down over my hands and my head feels light. My vision begins to close in slowly. The way when you have taken a real hard blow to the head. Kinda brown and black spekals slow starting at the eadge creaping in.
I spin on one heal and fall backward, I only feel my head hitting the ground but at this stage its only a distant hollow thud. My hearing is beginning to become distant and I can hear people exclaiming and gasping but none of it is regeristing. Im able to taste the iron in my mouth and when I try to ease the fire in my lungs by beathing its just a strange gurgly spultter.
I can see people above me talking but my vision is becoming less and less and there mouths are moving but it like it only reaches me in an odd muffeled way and about 3 seconds after their mouth moved. My vision now is down to pin holes, I cant breath, there is silence and I feel quite a peaceful panic coming over me......I know im going to die. My vision goes dark and then theres notthing....................Bang! I wake up and take a massive breath im cover in sweat and evertthing seem very real all of a sudden.

Well thats my worst ever dream where I actually died. It was soo ****ing real as well :( I was freaked for ages and still am a little, and it takes alot to disturb me.
Also I have never had a wet dream :( I mean I have had dirty ones buy never had one which actually erm finished if you know what I mean. Whats up with that

Errr, I'd be scared of dreams like that Wolf, but then again its only natural,
also wet dreams can often not even involve sex, or fantasies about sex, its mearly the blood flowing the your **** becoming to whatever, im in a net cafe and the guy at the counter might be looking at my screen, go figure it out :D

anyways, Alot of ppl tend to have dream patterns, for a period they wont dream, and sleep isnt satisfying enough, its not sleeping well, but when ppl do dream sleep tends to be more satisfying..

I had a period where i couldnt stop dreaming, and instead of lying in in the morning cause i was tired, i was sleeping to dream.
I've had plenty of ****ed up dreams but what i find more weird is being half asleep half awake, if any1 has had the same experience plz do tell, I was listening to music through headfones while lying in bed ready to sleep, and I felt the same as if I had just smoked a joint, only I've been off all intoxicants for 2-3 months now, I could hear every song clearly, and my eyes would open, and then shut for a period (Often when i got High I loved to meditate, ppl who have ever smoked a joint wiv meh often get scared cause i have my eyes closed and am drifting back and fourth, but I'm fully aware of what im doing).
It was ****ed up, I didnt sleep/close my eyes and become unconcious all night yet I was fully Revived and refreshed in the morning.
almost felt like i had reached spiritual Nirvana.

worst dreams I seem to be having are Gaming ones, I installed (and uninstalled) teh Sims last night , did something i regreted, went to bed, and all I could do is Dream about the Sims.
That shall happen no MORE! I gave the CD's away to a mate today HeHeHe....

anyways, in short, DREAMS R TEH WIN!

Hold on I just re-read my post... can anyone give me a way that one male human, one male elf, and a seal pup who's the son of god could restart the human race? I don't recall any female humans... Though a later dream involved oral sex and car bombs... hold on, hows that connected... I'm way to confused...

How old are you? coz she is only 17 or something so if you are much older then it must be related to the age difference

Valerian is a mild herbal tranquiliser that can cause vivid dreams.
    It is available over-the-counter.

Listening to "pieces in a modern style" by william orbit as I fall asleep seems to cause me to dream more/more vividly also.
I find that oversleeping, and avoiding stimulus during the day is a good way too. (no telly computer etc).
