My sis has a new phone on an upgrade and wants to give her old O2 bill phone to my mum who has a O2 prepay phone & sim. But the old phone is locked to my sis's sim even though shes using a new phone. O2 want €75 to unlock the phone from one O2 sim to another one. Seems a bit nuts. How come its so expensive. Seems a better idea just to buy my mum a new phone for chrimbo.

Usually the phone is locked to a single network. Try a different Digifone/O2 (Speakeasy) SIM card in your sister's old phone cause I'm sure it will work.

Single network. Thats what I thought. I'll give it a go tomorrow night.

If the phone is a Motorola or a Siemens it could be "Sim-Locked" to the original sim. If you ring the help line 1850 601747 and ask for the sim unlock code this should sort ur prob. They usually only look for you to spend a certain amount if you want the Network unlock code. Hope this helps!

Thats probably it. They told us the phone has to go to an o2 dealer! The dealers say €75. However both accounts do not have a large amount of use.
