    Hi all,

I'm 29, and I'm convinced my foot size has gone up 1 in the last couple of years. What the hell is going on? I'm pretty sure your feet don't keep growing, does anyone else have any experience of this?

    In my experience, no.
My feet have stayed at size 12 for the last 4 years (18 atm).

One thing I can think of is an overactive thyroid gland.
Go to your GP about it. you never know.
have you gotten much taller along with your shoe size?

this has happened to me too but i thik it's just that the different barnds of shoes might have different measurements.

at 29 your shoes are more likely to be shrinking! :p

I'm with DamienH on this one, my feet shrinked an amazing 2 sizes when I bought my last pair of shoes. I am pretty sure it is to do with the manufacturer.

But there are some things in your body that do and don't grow. Your brain doesn't grow as far as I know but your ears do! I'm sure your feet do too but each person has their growth factor.

    Look it up on Google©

Your ears and nose continue growing through old age, pretty sure feet come to a halt towards the end of your teens. Its most likely your shoe size. Heres some facts: a irish/british size 10 is a us size 11 and a female size 9 is in fact a male size 10, so to the women out there with the fat feet, your feet suddenly got bigger.

    Thanks for the replies guys,

What brought this to my attention was a pair of hiking boots I bought around 6 years ago. I started wearing them again recently for the first time in around 4-5 years and they seem a little two small. Then I realised that most of the shoes I've been buying lately have been 12's instead of my usual 11's. Maybe it's because I've put on a bit of excess weight in the last few years. Fat feet I guess!:( But seriously I really do think they have gotten longer too!

    Thanks,
    B.M.

I think you'll be ok...as long as you keep growing in proportion to your feet, if you know what I mean (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). But seriously too, I think my footsize has gone up in the last year also, by about 1 size, from 12 to 13. Bought a pair of boots a while ago, a new pair of the one's I always wear, same design, same size. And the buggers were too tight. Thought it was my imagination, but now that you brought this up, I'm not so sure.

yeah im roughly a size 6, my feet stopped growing when i was 12 but thanks to all the different manufacturers i can take anywhere from a size 4 to a size 7!

yeah, id say putting on weight on you foot could be something to do with it alright, but im not sure if feet stop growing or not, i thougt they did but i couldnt swear to it.

I'd pretty much put down an apparrent change in foot size to a change n manufactured sizes.

I was comfortable in a size 12 (uk) a year or so ago but recently I was shopping for casual shoes/boots and I noticed that the 12 from many manufacturers seems to have shrunk.

My feet probably have increased slightly in size but I never noticed any tightness or discomfort in the previous 12's I owned.

The irony of it it that peoples feet are probably getting bigger on average (better diet, bigger overall build, etc) and the show manufacturers don't seem to be accomodating it.

i read somewhere that the foot doesn't keep growing "per-se", but that the shape of it does change (such as the arch flattening i think) that might explain it.

    It is what it's.

    Googled it :):

    2. At what age do your feet stop growing?
You answered: d. They may continue to grow as you get older
    That's correct
Technically, your foot bones are fully developed by age 25. But from then on, the ligaments start to weaken and your feet may flatten and spread. Putting on weight can add to the problem. And during pregnancy, when changing hormones make your ligaments especially loose, you may gain a full shoe size. So measure your feet each time you shop for new shoes.

    Thanks Mr.Applepie,

That's some interesting information. I wonder what else apart from ears and nose keep growing? I know my belly is certainly growing!

I'm 26, and my feet have grown like 1 cm in the last 4 years. That sucks because I'm size 13 in the US, and it's not very easy to find shoes.

It could also be some minor swelling that makes you think that your feet are growing, or perhaps the shoes are a strange make.
