Downgrade from Family pack to Knowledge Pack.....

They don't send the Sky Mag (Saves trees)

You get only TWO stupid channnels (CNX and Sky1) that you have to pay for, the others are as they "say on the Tin", the "Knowledge" stuff. (Stay saner).

It costs less too. Every two months enough to buy a new DVD. (Save money)!

You are not at all a bitter person are you?

Any opinion on RTÉ being FTA or even FTV?

Give it a rest. We have heard it too many times.

I don't think the Knowledge Pack is good value. Family Pack is great value considering the range of channels on it including the 4 Irish channels :p and BBC1 + 2. Oh and all the music channels, the 2 Eurosport channels, Sky Sports News, attheraces, etc. And UK Gold and other entertainment channels.

Obviously the Knowledge Pack suits you but that's why it's available! Keep everyone happy... (don't start)

I might upgrade to Family pack for Christmas.

It makes you wonder about the price structure, though.

Since sky is unregulated here they can't be made to have more transparent pricing.

We have to rely on the UK regulators.

I hope the new cards do allow more flexibility in blocking channels.

I'm not bitter. But I do think which channel packages you can sign for and the price structure a bit suspect. Though compared with Chorus Digital MMDS it is better structured and cheaper. Actually much better structured and cheaper.

Should the Sky magasine be an option to opt out off, or should all Sky subscribers get it or is a waste of paper?

If you didn't know it and other packs existed, you might not be told when you ring Sky!

The KP suits cos I have:
    1) A FTA digital receiver picking up 4 Satellites (inc FTA sky). Feeds all TVs on preset 5
    2) Perfect TV3 & TG4 with moderate RTE1 & NET2 via aerial
    3) BBC World on Analog (alt TV5, DW TV, RAI etc), feeds all TVs on preset 7.
    4) Other faster Digibox with a different card ;) on preset 6 all tvs
    5) CNN on analog (alt various German//Polish), feeds all TVs on preset 8
    6) The Digibox with ROI Knowledge pack feeds all Tvs on preset 9.
    7) The S-VHS feeds all TVs on preset 10.
    8) Any unencryped/clear Chorus analog MMDs channels are in the workshop. I peer at it occasionally and marvel how bad the Tv3 & C4 are compared with Chorus channel that has different channels on it.

The only channels I might particularly miss, then from family pack would be Hallmark, UK Drama, UK Gold, Granada Plus. Hallmark seems to be not as good anymore, UK Gold & Granada Plus we nearly know the repeats off by heart! That's why after first year we cancelled family pack and Disney which we had too.
Disney also is fine at first, but seems to recycle after a while.

If I change to Family pack it might give some flexibility on "timeshifting" the odd film over Christmas that clashes. (I have Anlog TV PVR on one PC and FTA Digital Satellite PVR on another as well as the S-VHS and ordnary VHS recorders).
S-VHS with real S-VHS tapes is a big improvement over ordinary VHS for recording Anamorphic WS). I expect DVD recorders to fall to S-VHS recorder prices next year (250 Euro).
