    Simpsons.

Famly Guy is great at times, but the bad episodes of the Simpsons are more watchable than the bad episodes of FG.

Have to say I prefer family guy over any of the newer simsons, they're way funnier. Goodshape you been watching the cut family guy on sky one or something? I haven't come across a bad episode yet! I was under the impression that family guy was canceled non?

The REAL Family guy kicks ass, ie not that piece of crap on sky/c4 - where they leave out all jokes and makes no sence whatsoever

but the simpsons 3 years ago .. now that was classic

As much as I love the Simpsons, Family Guy is still better.

Name one bad Family Guy episode
Get the DVD set of Season 1.

BTW it's a moot point really as Family Guy got cancelled. Just goes to show Americans have no bloody taste.

probably not PC enough. i hate that PC brigade

i love Family Guy so much. i'll only watch on TV3 or the computer

There's no such thing as a bad Family Guy episode. Seriously. Every one is tailormade and crafted to perfection. It's by far the best animated show on TV. /me remembers man in chicken suit fight scene.

Peter : "We're going to [wherever] for dinner tonight"

Lois : "Thank God, I don't have to make dinner then"

Peter : "No no no no, You make it, then we'll throw it out...I don't want you getting rusty..."

With lines like that, I'd say it got cancelled because of Peter's character.

[peter] - A boats a boat, but the mystery box could be anything, it could even be a boat, you know how much ive always wanted one of those Lois.

FG clearly owns The Simpsons, maybe its the fact that most people have seen eps of The Simpsons 20 times.

Ive never seen a really bad episode of FG, maybe the jousting one but it had funny bits, unlike Simpsons specials and musicals and general weak eps which are awful.

Older Simpsons. Don't find Family Guy all that funny tbh.

I don't think they're really comparable. The Simpsons has hundreds of episodes and has earned a 'classic' status. Plus, there are very few people who don't like it. FG only has a few seasons under its belt, and there are still many people who can't appreciate it's style of humour.

That said, if there's a FG and a Simpsons on at the same time, I'll watch FG, but only because I havent seen every episode ad nauseum. I can't choose a winner tbh.......

Liked the Kirk impression in one episode of the Family guy, since then not even a giggle.

Simpsons at its peak was new, the only thing of its kind and fresh. Like unedited Family guy.

To compare old Simpsons (after being pelted with repeats for the last years) to fresh family guy is impossible.

I have seen all but a handfull of the family guy eps on PC and they are all utterly brilliant.

Simpsons is still good, but no longer in the same league, it has just got a little to old, and tho the odd new episode is a hit, they are missing a lot these days.

In its first series Family Guy was a very stiff competitor against the simpsons for best tv show.It is not that it has gone bad but Family Guy now isnt near as brilliant as the Simpsons. It is good alright but nowhere near as good as the first series.
It is sort of like South Park-the first series it provided serious threat to the simpsons dominence in my liking, but lost out with a woefulk second series. It is OK now but,as with Family Guy,nowhere near as brilliant as the first series.Sorry to go off topic a little but south park these days tries too hard to be controversial and sick, whereas in the first series it just came naturally.
The simpsons got off to a terrible start back in 1990 when it was only a kids show.It then got gradually better and by the mid/late 90s was absoloutely excellent before starting a slight decline around the millennium.Sure it is not as good as the mid 90s,but it isnt terrible and is still very funny at times.
And its a billion times better than episodes from around 1990.They were brutal in comparison to later ones.
BTW where are you guys watching Family Guy on the PC?Greatful for a link thanks.

Looks like its the rest of season 2 (using http://www.tvtome.com/FamilyGuy/eplist.html as a guide).

i know someone who is a huge Family Guy fan. he has a cable modem and a burner. that's how i see them on a PC. he uses Kazaa

the simpsons was excellent, but after too many seasons, it just got old. they started doing really stupid stuff and the jokes just didn't have the same impact any more, especially when you're hearing them for the millionth time
family guy is class, unfortunately, it never even got to stretch its wings properly:( the humour isn't as widely appreciated, which is probably one of the reasons it got cancelled.
i still cant believe that family guy got cancelled and furturama is still going tho, that just bugs the crap out of me...

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

I only use Amazon as a reference, and then buy through Play.com :D

It does like the rest of Series 2, but why did DVD of Series 1 include so much of Series 2 anyway? Always thought that as weird....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,240 ✭✭✭hussey

    if you look at http://www.tvtome.com/FamilyGuy/eplist.html

its the production number that defines teh seasons not teh order they were shown in i.e. anything with a 1ACX0x was season 1
and I will presume anything with a 2ACX0x will be Season 2

though there are 22 2ACX's so I guess it will be 14 of these?

minus - wish upon a weinstein - which is about jews .. V Funny!!

you have to watch the uncut family guy episodes to fully appreciate it, i personally think family guy is feckin ace, but the simpsons has captured the last 10 years of my life :p

hmmmmmm so hard to decide, dunno what to vote for  :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,240 ✭✭✭hussey

When you quote from the simpsons everyone know what it is .. not so with FG

    eg
"Bart, with $10,000, we'd be millionaires! We could buy all kinds of useful things like...love!"

but if I mention Family guy to my friends (non tech ppl who dislike PC's) they stare at me blankly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭azezil

Family Guy can be helarious, but for long running funny's i choose Simpsons

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭Mark

The Simpsons is definately better than edited FG (Some of the cuts are absolutely ridiculous, one springing to mind the "Diamonds-she'll pretty much have to" scene:) Edited its ****e and makes no sense, unedited it pwns)
Recent simpsons have been pure ****e and Ive always enjoyed FG, though its questionable wheter its a good thing its being cancelled otherwise it might degenerate into what the simpsons has become now and leave us with bad memories. Better for it to go out while its still great I think

    simpsons. its teh win!!!!1!11!!

Family Guy is better than a BAJILLION Simpsons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

I think The Simpsons shades Family Guy as its been on longer and now that Family guy has got the boot you can't make a comparison as its no longer on although the FG eps are better than the latter Simpson eps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,055 ✭✭✭suppafly

It has to be the simpsons! Its just the best cartoon ever! Family guy is pretty funny to, haven't really watched to many of them, but the ones i've seen were good. As for the poll, its pretty close, 29-28 to simpsons. Gwan simpsons!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 852 ✭✭✭m1ke

Family Guy wins outright without contest.

Out of only 50 episodes each one of them is funny, it's hard to find a **** episode, and some of the later 3rd season episodes just showed the show getting better and better with higher quality

The Simpsons was great but it should have stopped making episodes ages ago

The sad prolonging dragged out agony of more Simpsons episodes has led to the cancellation and marginalisation of brilliant shows like Futurama and Family Guy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,831 ✭✭✭Lucutus

Wow, 30 votes for each of them as I post this...

This has to be the closest poll ever on boards...

Are you people just gonna let the Simpsons WIN?

    Sheesh,

    c'mon Family Guy fans, ffs!

Family Guy is, IMO, more tongue-in-cheek. I like it more than The Simpsons, probably more due to the constant repeats of the latter on BBC2, NET2, SKY1 et al (I think they wore the fun off the Simpsons) Still like The Simpsons tho.

    It is what it's.

They both suck. I hate shows that have to fill in for their weak scripts with cheap throw-away gags and both nominee's definetly fall into that category.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

Pigman I agree with you on Friends but Seinfeld weak script ?shall I pass you a script of The Contest? I suppose its the intelligent viewers that like Seinfeld and thats not personally directed to you Pigman Its a fact, we discussed this in a previous thread first of all you have to get the subtle jokes and The NY references and watch it consitently thats where most people fail but hey everyone has opinions.:)

The fact that I was actually refering to the original points of reference (ie Family Guy and Simpsons) only confirms what I think about both shows .... and the people who follow them.
