Getting back to RTG

I used to have a ready-to-go but the top ups were quite expensive as I was doing quite a bit of phoning .... so I decided to go for a contract phone (6510) and keep my ready-to-go number ... that was fine but since then my call volume has dropped off drastically (and it is unlikely to go back to the volume it was before) ... now I barely use the phone .... can I (at the end of the 1 year contract) go back to ready-to-go with my phone and phone number?

Failing that, how do I get vodafone to unlock the phone so that I can get a pay as you go type sim for it at the end of the contract??..
I dont really want to do this because most family and friends use this number to contact me...

Theres no problem at all, you have to give them 28 days notice, so 28 days b4 the year is up ring them ad tell them, they also need it in writing (fax is best). and then your number is back to rtg and you still have your phone. you probably already know but dont get an upgrade if they offer it to you.

    good luck

if its a contract as opposed to rtg it should be simfree already. also if you are on a tarrif you arn't using change to a cheaper one - or maybe one of the talk and text tarrifs they brought in. it might be worth staying

After being shafted by Vodafone during the Summer, and now with their price increase, I decided to get my phone converted back to RTG.

I rang and enquired about the procedure and the said there was a form to fill out. They are sending me out the form, and there is no charge for it (there bloody well wouldn't want to be).

Can't wait until we can keep our number while moving from one operator to the next. Anybody know when that is coming in?

    TD.

I have been tryin to get a response to this for a while. The following is the current state of play:

The ODTR's 2002 workplan says December 2002, and this has not been modified/updated
The ODTR will not comment in writing, other than to say negotiations are ongoing
The ODTR will comment unofficially on the phone: negotiations are ongoing and good progress is being made and it may not happen by End-2002 but should happen in 2003 hopefully early in 2003
Vodfone customer service (1st call) declines to comment; commercially sensitive information blah blah (2nd call) "what are you talking about" (3rd call) "Are you mad"
    O2 Customer Service - First half 2003
From an insider - its a complete billing nightmare because of the way the systems were created, and anyway it would give far too much power to the consumer - will use every possible tactic to stall and delay it - will never happen.

    Take your pick...............

Ah yes, a consumer with power in Ireland. What a contradiction. No wonder they will try to stop it.
