im receiving an error when i start the a new career, it closes and tells me theres a runtime error, is that a vb file missing or something to do with DirectX, i have 8.1 installed.

Try finding a web site that deals directly with virtual pool 3 and see if they have any patches for it or trouble shooting guides.
