ok, thing is myself and a few friends are heading to brussels in 2 months time for a long weekend, we decided to avail of the cheap flights with ryanair. any ideas of place go and see. could anyone recommend clubs pubs etc.
also we are thinking about going to amsterdam for a day. a daily return trip on the train will cos about €36, only prob is it takes nearly 2.5 hrs each way :(

remember we are poor students so money will play a big factor in what happens on the holiday.

    thanks for any info

the main square in brussels is called the grand place. its full of bars and restaurants. also plenty of bars in the surrounding streets, especially west of the grand place. cant remember any names.
rue des bouchers is worth a look - its completely lined with restaurants, most of them cheap.
only club ive been to is fuse and it wasnt bad check their website to see whats on.

amsterdam is more expensive than brussels, but i'd recommend spending at least 1 of your 3 nights there. book well ahead if you do - finding accomodation in amsterdam is a nightmare.

    Hi Rabies,

I hope ye guys all enjoy your trip ( I was only invited today, by the way, so thanks for that) As I'm going to the states next summer, and also have my final year exams in Feb, I can't go wih ye. Besides, I've been in brussels twice, so don't fancy going again in a hurry.

There are a number of things to see in Brussels. the most obvious is to go see the Grand Place, which is in the heart of the city. Its simply a square, and they plant flowers and stuff there in summer and spring. In winter then they put down an ice skating ring (will probably be gone by the time ye get there).

Just off the Grand Place is a pub called Le Cruciel (think its spent like that) translated to english its known as the coffin. Its one freaky pub. They have coffins all over they place, its really dark, and they play really spooky music.

Other interests include the Manikan Pis, whish is just a staute of a kid pissing, hilarious!!!

Go also to Haziel (think thats how its spelt) There is a mini europe park there, and also there a big football pitch there (where the euro matches were played).

Hope that helps. I actually think I might have some photos if ya wanna see them.

    *cough*

well i'm heading there tomorrow. the amsterdam part if the trip is gone now. seems it will cost more than we taught to get there.

does any one know of good places to go on the piss.
we have been told to check out a club called Fuse and some other club, cant remember the name....

if any of you have been in brussles before what did you think of the place..... where would you reccommend going...

Erm Paradiso in the liedersplein is good, and escape is the other big club. was there last week, Escape is nice, hardhouse music, you'll be paying 20 euro in, drink is reasonable in my opinion, goes on untill about 6-7 Am, if your a keen clubber you can goto LAW, which is a day club starts at 7am finished 7 pm that evening. Hear its good, never been, too hardcore for me!

Stay in Flying Pig hostel, great place :)

oh and brussles sucks, dont waste your time.
If you you want to visit belgium go north, goto Brugge, its a lovely town, not great nightlife, but then you wont get much nightlife in brussels either, the beer is very nice tho :)

Brussels isn't very attractive but Belgian chocolate is good.

The battlefield of Waterloo is outside Brussels (can't be anymore specific, was far too young when visiting it) and has a stone lion in there (as well as an impressive scenery, if you manage to climb those 224 stairs up the hill).
