O2 have a bit of previous on this. They cut the price of the Blackberry from something like €799 to €299 there recently. I presume this was because not enough people were buying it. Still, there must have been a massive markup on it the first time around.

But locking the phone to the network is a way of protecting their market and increasing profits. Thats the only reason they need to use different software. Similar to region encoded DVD's etc.

Well thats true but, it doesn't account for the high cost in this situation, O2 simply know they can get away with charging more here so thats why they do it. I reckon its racist, I'd love to know a lawyer to see if it could be classed as such.

if you manage to kick up enough of a fuss about it and can get others to make complaints then you might see results. just like happened on these boards with Komplett where they brought their prices more in line with what the are offering in germany, england, etc.

That was an amazing bit of customer power imo.

you could write a letter to the consumer complaints place (some one help me out with the proper name please) highlighting the enormous price difference for no valid reason.
