since installing windows xp service pack 1 my download speed has been cut from 4.xx to 3.xx
i know its not that much but i'm on 56k dialup.
but this lack of speed was fine untill sp1 was installed i tried to roll back the modem driver but that wasnt backed up. so thats not the problem.

    anyone have any ideas ?

    no thats not it
even when i uninstall sp1 the problem is still there
goes away when i reformat the hard disk tho.
the sp isnt essential is it ?

If your PC is working fine and your on a dial up connection, SP1 is not essential.

all security fixes after oct 1st will not install without sp1. me also thinks newer versins of .net will not install either. in time you will need it.

when i got sp1 first i found that installing it over a well worn installation was not a good idea. there were errors everywhere and flight sim 2002 just didnt want to work. when you install it your best bet is format install xp and before you install anything else do sp1 first. that fixed all the problems i had with it.

[edit]one thing i forgot is that it could have installed the QoS thing onto the dial up netwoking connection. remove that as its supposed to eat up bandwidth.[/edit]

i think this could be the problem but im not sure of this QoS thing you speak of.

right click you dial up connection -> properties -> select the networking tab.

there should be only 3 things there.

    internet protocol (tcp/ip)
file and printer sharing for microsoft networks
    client for microsoft netwoks

the tcp/ip one should be checked no others

if the QoS thing is there highlight it and select unistall.
