More a thread to find out if anyone here is playing than anything else (as I see no thread mentioning it at all)

IMHO, they've actually got it right after the relative failure of Porsche Unleased (which ran like a dog TBH). Control is excellent, graphics are (obviously) much improved, AI seems much better. Plus it runs happily on win2k which might mean I can get rid of my win98 partition. Braking is still a hair-raising experience, even more so than with NFS: Hot Pursuit 1 (or High Stakes if you're in the US or picked up a dodgy copy)

Haven't tried it over a LAN but it's so good I just have to. Nice replacement for Gran Turismo or Daytona when people call.

Kyro cards aren't officially supported btw (bit of a problem for me as I just got one from phaxx) but there are a few solutions for this on the web to sort the problems (which are basically all graphics being replaced by an ugly message - looks much nicer when fixed)

Assuming there's someone else on boards playing this, what do people think of the game?

from what ive heard the using the term arcade racer to describe it is derogatory to arcade racers. it supposedly fails in every area, ai, handling, fun, everything except car models which are supposed to be the best ever, anywhere. i dont plan on touching it because ive not seen a decent racing game come out in a long time(since f1 2002 that is).

    I had the original NFS3:HP.

One fo the best 2 player games I ever played in my PC.
    Me n the bro...one teh cop...the other in a Diablo....classic 2 player fun!

I was thinking fo getting HP2 but from a recent review of it...I'm not so sure.
I got a demo here atm but until I bring my machine in to be formatted and I get it back..I dont have any way of installing it [DvD and CD-RW are not working :(]

    Off-topic:
If you want high-speed pursuit action, try renting Burnout 2 for the PS2.. unbelivabley great game for the first 16 hours. then i think my eyes started to bleed. its too damn fast and too hard to concentrate that long, don't buy it though cos it wears thin after a while. decent 2-player.

Anyway back on topic.. well NFS anyway..
I had Porsche Unleashed (PC) and personally loved it, sure the handling wasn't the best, I mean NFS is always going to be arcade, but it looked beautiful (especially the skysand reflections @ 32bit 1024x768) and every Porsche and stats where there, I had a very enjoyable few weeks or so playing that :)

might try grabbing a demo of this though..

    Played the demo

    Porsche 911 Turbo v Ferrari 360

    Graphically spot on.
Handling...good but braking is...*hmmm* not too good. Considering I've never driven a high powered performance car, I dunno what the braking is like at high speeds.

The chopper with the *explosive charges* is a laugh!
Bad enough having all the cops on your tail but having a damn police chopper dropping charges on your car?

A good laugh and I can see myself playing it over and over.

In fact..I'll do just that now!

Worth a buy if your not looking for anything to serious.

one note: apparently there's no option to be the cop in multiplayer mode

bought the full game at X-Mas and have been meaning to write up here!

Very very good game if you dont take it too serious.
Range of cars is stunning and altho some of them are too weak for my own tastes.

EG. BMW M5 isn't as fast as I'd like. Feels way to heavy when turning.
The Jag XK8 is ****e! Turning is crap, braking is crap.
Diablo is kinda slow too. Disappointing.

Damage is a very nice addition from the original HP.

The wealth of user made cars is amazink altho there are one to many OTT tuned cars [eg. BMW M5 tuned to 700BHP ffs!]

Races available are single player championships:

    Single Championship: One without cops
    Hot Pursuit: One with cops

You dont have a choice about AI levels throughout the championship cos it changes as you progress through the championship tree.

Points won are used to unlock tracks n cars.

Online is good funn altho watching guys cheat is a pain in the arse.
Ping on my own 56K is round 180 or so depening on the server.

    Definatly recommended.

Well im playing the game at the mo and i love it in single player great crack the police chasing makes it one of the more exciting racing games out three!

Ive played it over a LAN as well and its not as good! I played Blue wing at the weekend and we gave each other a good race but if any noobs play with you they dont even get a look at youre car as you leave the kicking, which is why i prefer Eracer for LANs even if it is getting old now! It would be good on a LAN if it included police chasing you or if you could be the police!
But i still love it for some good single player fun!
