Friday night was the time that really annoyed me and it's about time we did something. This is not about 'Protestants v Catholics' it's just about TV entertainment.

I settled down to watch Children In Need expecting the warmly invitation into a good night of entertainment with Gabby Roslin and Terry Wogan. But 5 minutes in we were switched to BBCNI's coverage. The setting was alright with plenty of screaming fans. But that's all that was exciting about it.

John Daly was er....bad. Their line-up was the forgotten 'Six', 'Bellefire', and 'Lulu' etc... They had Daniel Beddingfield and Ronan Keating but that's not enough for at least 6 hours of entertainment. Meanwhile on the main BBC they were treated to Will Young, Holly Valance, S Club, Elton John, Gareth Gates, Rod Stewart, a Eastenders special dance etc... .

This is not the only example of the Ulster stations annoying me.

'I've got news for U', 'They think it's all over', 'jonothan ross' are all put on after 11 thanks to the terrible 'Daniel', 'John Daly Show' and the not funny 'Give my head peace'.

While another chat show 'Kelly' is on UTV pushing the ITV movie premiere into 11:20 finishing at 1:30. And a few months back there was an interruption to the drama series 'Bad Girls' thanks to a no-point docu. Thanks to this we had Bad Girls one week after it aired on ITV - which ruined the explosive ending.

I know i can't do anything about it. I just wish we had the main ITV1 and BBC Normal. No offence to the Ulster people.

    What do you think. Agree/Disagree?

i tottally agree. im no fan of shoddy programs especially if they knock off good tv watching programs like have i got news for you to some ungodly hour.

a good solution for those on the east coast is to erect (dont laugh) an antenna and catch the original channels accross the irish sea. :p

on the other hand you might get the BBC Wales edition or something else other then the normal flavour BBC and ITV. anyone have the antenna already? wanna explain?

    adnans

getting BBC Wales isn’t a good idea, trust me I have watched tv in Wales, its just not a good idea.

getting rid of BBC NI and UTV isn’t a good idea either as you will have to put up with some local programming from some where in the UK.

If you wanted to be silly, you could ask the BBC to set up BBC Ireland

Yeah this is a subject close to my heart-
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32358

Norn Iron tv is just awful peopled by folk whoes sense of hair, clothes and humour has yet to evolve beyond about 1973.

Its a pity there is no such thing as BBC/ITV central which contains no regional variations or accents.

    Mike.

If you're stupid enough to watch UTV, the you get what you deserve.

Yeah, UTV is pretty dreadful alright. Ad after ad for shopping centers is my pet hate. :)

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that "Give my head peace" is AWFUL unfunny rubbish.

i agree with all that has been said about boring local programming pushing networked television to ungodly hours. it does have its moments where it can be handy for timeshifting (if you have the english versions) but for those with only the NI versions i sympathise with you

    Whoah there!

If it hadn't been for UTV and BBC Norn Iron I'd never have gotten the opportunity to spend the schoolday-mornings of my impressionable childhood listening to how yet another person had been shot dead, knee-capped or blown to oblivion the night before in the mystical land of Norn Iron.

Forget about just getting rid of their channels .... I'd be happy to be shut of their whole worthless country.

How many of these places does NI have? Eight or ten maybe...you'd think there were thousands. Also how many settees, beds and other soft funishings can 1.1 million ppl need?

If ya don't like it, don't watch it. Simple as that! I personally have no problems with NI TV (despite not being into NI presenters), as it adds variety.

Maybe you'd prefer just the 4 IRL terrestrials, and let's face it, the presenters on them aren't much (if at all) better!

I totally agree. I now have an FTV card which means I can watch whatever ITV region I want (Granada at the moment). Thank god I don't have that fool on before Cor Street (which me GF watches... honest :p )

Ad after ad for shopping centers is my pet hate.

Forever burnt into my frontal lobe: "Its a big shopping center, in Ballymena HAIGH"

There's no excuse for showing 'Give my head peace', it's just plain bad.

Having said that, I don't watch either channel. Plenty of watchable stuff on my Sky digital.

Firstly "Give my head peace" is way better than any comedy that RTE produce (except Batchelors Walk which is a co-production with the BBC). It is still crap but better crap than the crap that RTE serves us with paid by our license.

My 2nd point is that anyone who watches a film on UTV just doesn't have a clue. Anyone remember the awful dubbing on Die Hard "Yippee-Ki-Ya KEMOSABI" ROFLOL :)

If you don't like enm don't watch em .

Why can't we just have the english channels?!?!? Why do we have to suffer with the crappy NI ones?? I remember there was a fairly lenghty thread on here(or maybe another board) about getting back HTV and all of that cuz they're good channels!! No more of this NI bollocks!!

Oh right. Have to say I disagree. There's nothing wrong with NI TV. And as I said before, dont watch it if you dont like it. BBC or ITV are under NO obligation to let us watch ANY of their channels so the fact we get any is a blessing.

To be honest I never even thought about it. I thought when they said BBC NI, it meant that was where all the BBC channels were broadcast from :]

    Yes I'm an idiot :P
