A link I came across, it shows what the rest of the world is doing while Ireland remains in the "dark ages" on internet connectivity ...

    Broadband

Also from the techie section ...
"A bigger danger to the leased line market as a whole is the encroachment of DSL (digital subscriber line) services, which promise cheap broadband connections through a shared PSTN (public switched telephony network) cloud.

Jill Singer, research manager for European telecoms at IDC, is confident DSL will cut into leased line's market share. "DSL is a big development. It's happening more slowly in the UK than elsewhere in Europe because of the difficulties with unbundling the local loop. But I expect it to cannibalise leased lines revenues once services are up and running," she predicted."

The real reason our friends at €ircon are't in a rush to rollout DSL

    The World is watching ...
In October last year, European Enterprise Commissioner Erkki Liikanen lambasted Europe's incumbent telcos for keeping the price of leased lines unacceptably high. Markets picked out for particular scorn were France, Ireland, Spain and Sweden, while the UK was accused of having the highest charges of all.
