Just off the top of my head.
    Before € After €
    Obrien's lager= €3.68 €4.30
    Capitol €3.81 €4.50
Foggy Dew €3.49 €4.40 (sucks cause one of the few places that plays good music)
    Sosume €3.68 €4.40

All this has been done in the midst of a recession. It doesn't actually make them more money as people go out drinking less and resent them at the same time.
If there were a situation in Ireland that created competition amongst bar owners (like the rest of the first world) then they would't get away with this. Another thing that could be done is that people actually boycott pubs in Ireland on weekends. The Consumer Association in Ireland is just resting on it's a**e at the moment "thinking" about boycotts. What is there to think about. I would urge everyone to write the Consumer Association and complain. www.consumerassociation.ie
Of course corrupt officials involved in licensing bar owners as well as license reforms that are archaic compared to the rest of the world. Something like 24 hour drinking like in Europe. Late licensing just dwindles the competing bars as the night progresses until you end up with one or two bars that are still serving and can basically charge whatever they want.

What should really happen is that the pub industry should be deregulated. It won't happen soon though because the vintners association are too strong. I could be wrong but I beleive a bar owner from Cork was/ is a T.D.

There's a fixed number of lisences and as the licenses don't restrict the size of the pubs... big super bars are buying out our old traditional bars where the pints were better and cheaper.

So you get the likes of the stainless steel, minimalistic, pufter, way over priced pubs like Qbar instead of nice traditional ones like Slattery's of Rathmines.

I couldn't agree with you more. I am sick to death of this country and the way we are getting ripped off. And instead of tackling the issue the government are just gonna pile on even more expense to the pint in the budget. I've given up going out 'cause I just can't afford it anymore. This country is so corrupt at this stage it's not funny. I'm sick of these 'trendy' bars as their called. Packed to the hilt every night, music way too loud, and the prices way over the top. What really annoys me though are the people who go home and moan to their mates at what a ripoff the place was but then go again the week after anyway. Boycotts won't work in this country because there is way too much apathy. I already avoid at least 6 bars in Dublin that I feel are ripping us off and I know a few other that do the same but it's not enough.
