Got the game Friday.

For those who don't know what it is, it's another MMORPG only set in the future. It's kind of a cyber-punk world.

The world is huge! The graphics excellent and the people in it so far have been intresting.

One nice thing about it is, they reward PK's. If you go Pk your stats raise much faster. So you find that a lot of the cities are run by factions who look after the city through PK'ing. Not like AC-Darktide where they just gank newbies.

For those who don't want to PK, Neocron have holographic DM stores, where you can gank each other in medevil times or other senarios.

Oh and I would guess the game isn't suitable for kids. The city of Neocron alone has six brothels/strip clubs in it.

The outside looks a bit like tribes. They use zones instead of landblocks but the loadtime when crossing a zone is about 2-3 seconds (in AC there is no loadtime. they use Landblocks).

In order to get around you can buy anything from a motorbike, jeep, three man tank to a hover vehicles and aircraft.

How is combat handled? Is it decided on what level you have and your skill with shooting or whatever. Or is it actually how accurately you can point and click ala fps? Where are the servers located and what's the lag like?

Apart from being able to aim and shoot yourself all the combat is skill based.

So to use a weapon you would need.

Weapon lore
Weapon area skill (eg, pistol, rifle, exotic)

Then Dex and willpower I believe also help.

Then there is also the factor of how well kept the weapon is and what modifications it has (eg. laser guide, scope).

Likewise with driving. It requires skill to drive, although most of the transports allow multiple players in it.

There are currently 3 servers all located in Europe (the game was made by a German development house). One server appears to be just Germans (Jupiter), I'm playing on Saturn server which is english speaking and Jaggah is playing on Uranus (no jokes ) which I believe is also english speaking.

Lag, I haven't noticed any yet and I'm on 56k

Oh yea, prices. first 6 weeks are free. After that it's $9.95 a month or goes up to $44 for 6 months.

It is also faction based. So some factions own certain cities or outposts. They seem to have it done better then UO ever did. Watched some guy try to escape from a city he wasn't welcome in, all the vendors opened up on him as well.

Housing is a bit strange as well. If you take something like stockbroker you get a great marble floored apartment in the rich district. If you take a Psi Monk you are in the outer ring area in a run down hovel.

This looks good!, the offline demo looks and feels somewhat like a MMO-Deus Ex, a sweet thing in my books.
Being an ex Meridian,EQ,AC and current DAoC player, Neocron could be a breath of fresh air, there's only so many *insert generical Tolkien inspired critters* that one can slay!

ive got a fairly beefy character now

the way the combat system works is like this

lets say i want to use a rifle

first i have to have the strength to wield it STR, and the dexterity to be able to aim it DEX, but then i need a skill in Rifle Combat R-C and a skill in Heavy combat(using guns) H-C.

now that i have all those skills technically i can fight.

BUT

i also need willpower WP, this shrinks the aiming reticle faster allowing me to actually hit a target and i also need weapon lore W-L, this allows me to aim for weak locations on an enemy basically multiplying the damage.

other than that its point press trigger and hope you hit

My character is a Tank-melee specialist, i have a freddy kreuger claw that would rip you a new one

iwent on my first clan expidition last night, we all bailed into an apc (driver, commander, gunner, 8 passengers) and headed out to an outpost we wanted. After dealing with the sentry turrets and a few Victor Charlies we won the outpost.

The particular outpost is a factory so it gives our constructor characters +50 to their construction skill, allowing us to build better guns/vehicles/equipment.

im in love with this game

Well the demo was quite nice and has temped me to go further. Now just where to buy it and at what price.

Only copy I've seen so far was sitting in game in the Square with a €60 price tag (might have been €50 now that I think of it, I'm not too sure)

Where did you get your copy Hobbes/jaggeh?

I got mine from Game on grafton street. I forget how much I paid.

I watched Jaggah's Clan apartment for a little bit. Pretty impressive, but didn't see the outside APC/combat (pity).
