    BBC article

I'd prefer him than any of the other names that have been put forward. Toshsack (gone now anyway), Aldridge, Kinnear, O'Leary.

Martin O'Neill has been very quiet, has anyone heard anything about him ?

we could do worse he would have the respect of the players and he did lead boro to two cup finals, more than kinnear or any of the other candidates has done.

We need a manager who will bring some of the outstanding young players through. I don't think the manager who paid Rangers 4 million pounds for a clapped out Paul Gascoigne would do that.

Also, there is a certain unprofessional party atmosphere about the FAI setup. Robson was known at Middelsborough for the drinking culture they had there. Is this the man we want to manage Ireland.

I'll stick to my guns: Brian Kerr or Wim Jansen.

I like the Brian Kerr idea but I would prefer to see him come in as number two to someone with a view of making him the next manager. I think he is too raw at senior level to take over immediately, but I would prefer him to some of the names mentioned.

Brian Kerr is used to calling the shots though, I can't see him being willing to play second fiddle.

As a player (I'm no Utd fan) Robson was excellent, a wonderful captain and great tackler who was unlucky all through his career with injuries but those injuries were born out of his 100% commitment to the game.

As a manager Robson is not the answer. He may well be Keano's mate and could easily lure him back (which seems to the top criteria for this post) - but he is a rampant drinker and encorages the kind of alcohol binge school in his players that Keano was incensed about in Japan. He'll probably bring back back Quinn and make Richard Dunne the captain!!!

He is also an Englishman and a very proud one at that having played for England 80+ times. Not that that's a major issue but like with Charlton why go for the foreign option when home grown Irishmen like Kerr would relish the oppportunity to manage their native land.

This is why I hope Robson doesn't get the nod.

I Just heard that Kerr is the Favorite among the insiders in the Fai with Packie Bonner already lined up to take over as the techinal director ;)
