Smoking ban in public places

    From : http://www.rte.ie/news/2002/1107/smoking.html

It appears that smoking will be banned in restrauants and pubs which serve food. That means that when you go for Sunday lunch, in a pub, smoking in that pub will be outlawed.

It also appears that smoking the the workplace will be outlawed too. That means that come 5pm I will no longer have to put up with the smokers in my work, polluting the air I breathe with their filthy, disgusting, anti-social habits.

It would seem that smoking in clubs is still to be allowed. In California the smoking regulations are even tougher and I have to say I welcome this move by the government to protect public health and the environment people communally must endure.

This government measure gets the Typedef thumbs up! Go Team

This is great news - More details here for registered users on Irish Independent site.

Supporters of this move might want to email the Minister at his Dail office to encourage him.

Opponents of this move - That email address doesn't work :p

Its the right thing, but will the law be enforced? I don't know if the dept of health have inspectors for this sort of thing (health and safety?) the Gards certainly won't be arsed if they were asked.
They're too busy with speed traps!

It'll be the proprietors responsibility, I'd assume.

Reality is passive smoking poses a bigger threat to your health than Sellafield ever will.

I think that the minister in question should go for an all out ban on smoking in pubs. The present plan will probably result in many bars not bothering to serve food anymore. This will be a regressive step and goes against what is encouraged at present.
I dont accept the argument of many than an all out ban is not enforceable........of course it is.......it worked on planes and in cinemas and universities.
