Going forward is easy, most people manage to go a day forward in time every 24 hours.

It is possible to slow down the rate at which you go forward in time by travelling at increased speeds, the closer you go to the Speed of Light the slower time is for you. This is the Twins Paradox, one twin goes blasting off across the galaxy and when you comes back to Earth he finds his twin brother is now older than him.

Going backwards in time is tricky. It might be possible.

I got "How to build a time machine" by Paul Davies (@amazon) a while ago and it's quite good if you havn't got a clue and want somewhere to start, or if you just have a casual interest in it. It goes through all the different ideas about how you would do it. Short but good. (and its cheap :P)
