Does anyone know if the ADSL modems being sold as part of the €ircon or EsatBT broadband packages are Linux compatible.
And if they will work with the IPCop / Smoothwall firewall boxes.

All of €ircom's dsl modems are compatible.
In fact I believe some of the ultra cheap pci dsl modems are similarly compatible, but you should check the ILUG for that.

Myself I am using the Alcatel Speedtouch 350i and have the modem working in bridged mode. From there I have two network cards one which I don't assign an ip to and which I run pppoe through and another network card to interface with the internal lan.

From this Linux box I run nat, firewalling and mail relaying/mime type filtration.

The USB version of the speedtouch is quite well supported in the smoothwall/ipcop/mandrake genre of operating system. All of the afore mentioned have end user oriented interfaces that do all the donkey work of setting up the pppoe connection for you so, this means go ahead a get the USB modem from €ircom/€satBT and any recent version of the afore mentioned should suffice quite nicely for thine networking purposes.

Edit: I use Slackware for my server purposes... so there.
    Slackware! rasp
    Muchos Grande Mocha....
This is my offer Senator....... nothing
