Most overrated tv shows

In your opinion what are the most overrated shows on tv,current or in the past, which get what in your opinion is undeserved attention by the public and the tv critics?
IMHO it has to be The Office on BBC2.I have watched it fully twice now and TBH I only really enjoyed the first episode of the series-I thought the other one was a little boring.Today I saw it described as the best UK comedy in the past 10 years.Ah come on!Its alright but is The Office really any match for comedy legends such as Only Fools and Horses?
And even if this statement means the best new comedy in the past 10 years is it really in your view superior to the likes of The Royle Family and Father Ted?In my opinion certainly not.I dont know-perhaps because there is so little good comedy on tv these days that anything that is minorly good is hailed as the best thing since sliced bread.
But I am now more inclined to watch Tommy Tiernans Supertramp on Mondays rather than the Office, which is on at the same time.Supertramp is no classic neither but IMO it is better than the overrated Office.Maybe I just dont get the humour as much as I would if I worked in an office.Alot of these new comedies are aimed at an audience which can relate to the jokes, such as the Royles, where we can see shades of our own families in the things they say and do.Maybe its just because Im not an office worker that I dont naturally take to it.

And while were on the topic of overrated tv its worth saying that the excellent Oz on E4/'TG4 is possibly the most talented yet underrated show in history. Its a real shame-it deserves a 10pm slot on the mainstream channels but instead is confined to late night TG4 and Friday night E4.

In conclusion I believe that tv comedy reached its death stages about 2 years ago when the previously brilliant Dont Feed the Gondalas got sh1te before being eventually axed. Now all we have are the Simpsons and repeats of 1990s/1980s classics.

Friends, Eurovision  , Daniel O' Donnell's talk show (have any of you seen it   ). basically a lot of the stuff on the telly is over rated tripe but it's all about personal prefernces. ie. what i like and love is always going to be hated by the next person

The Office is still funny but it is a show whcih has its limits I would not be suprised if there's not a third series any way h'es got the boot but knowing Brent he'll get his own back, I would never put it in the overrated category, the ghastly Friends is overrated, and the wonderful Seinfeld was underrated here.

    Sorry to be pedantic but:
Overrated? Eurovision? Daniel O Donnel? Gondolas? Fame Acadamy?

These shows were never rated in the first place. They cant be overrated. Shows like Popstars, BB and the like were popular but never critically acclaimed. On a similar note, Seinfeld was critically lauded, so it could never be considered underrated.

The only two shows that people have so far expressed an opinion on here that could be considered overrated are Friends and The Office.

How anyone doesnt think the office is funny is beyond me tho ... Oh wait, this is coming from The "Kylie is a Minger" Gopher :)

Dustaz oil fookin bate tha head of yah.

Sorry but Im too tired to think of decent comebacks so I have resorted to petty threats of violence

But I agree Daniel O Donells show never really had the public divided on how good it is did it?
Anyway dont diss Daniel-I met him once when I was about 3:D

Friends, Seinfeld, and Cheers - three programs I think are vastly overrated

    seinfeld(Very American)
    mad about you(Tripe)
Father Ted (I just don't find being told about jokes before they happen funny)
    Sex and The City

There aren't many overrated tv shows most of the time if a show is bad, people say its bad but in the case of Big Brother, Treasure Island etc people get addicted to them and still say they are ****.

Also all soap operas are overrated i.e prime time ones coro st eastenders emmerdale fair city etc. Again they are addictive.

Seinfeld was critically lauded in America but as for here in Ireland? it was shown too late I don't mean the schedule more like it wasn't shown here till 97.

Gopher, no offence but I get a headache just reading your posts sometimes.

Could you just pick a point and stick to it? You start a thread asking US to mention the 'Most overrated TV SHOWS' then dedicate the body of your rant to why YOU don't like 'the office'? You then quickly switch to Oz (which isn't a comedy) yet finish up by saying 'In conclusion I believe that TV COMEDY reached its death stages about 2 years ago'.

Do you actually put any thought into what you write or do you just slap down every little thought that comes into your mind whilst typing lest one of your pearls of wisdom be lost to the world forever?

But regarding the topic in question, nearly all TV (by its very nature) is pap so only a fool could cherish any of it highly enough for it to become over-rated in the eyes of others. Should we care what fools think about their TV? I don't believe so, so it's really not an issue.

Also (as I've been invited to sit through both shows) the mere fact that you would choose to watch Tommy Tithead stomping around in the bogs of Ireland instead of 'The Office' makes me think you should go on medication immediately. Either that or you should just switch off the TV between the hours of 10pm to 10.30pm on a Monday night.

Finally, I wouldn't ever claim to be an expert in English grammar, but to my mind a TV show can't be described as 'talented'. Also from my report writing days a 'conclusion' is a way of highlighting an opinion formed by reason, not simply a convenient word to indicate to us that you are about to take a break from 'amazing' us with your incoherence once more.

I think TV today is vastly over-rated, I don't watch it anymore. But the most overrated would be:- Friends, Ally McBeal, all American comedy shows, popstars/rival, big brother (however I fall into the category of its ****e but I get addicted to it).

I used to love watching telly but now I can't be bothered anymore as in my opinion there's nothing to watch.

Oh yes, the worst show ever is the Lyrics Board, as a laugh my boyfriend and I sat through a whole episode, sheer torture and as for Daniel O'Donnell, his name gives me the horrors, I couldn't bear to watch a show by him, I didn't even know he had one.

How could Prime Time be classed as overrated? It's a factual programme. Are you a brainless idiot?

The Osbournes. That show sucks serious balls. Ozzy used to ****ing cool, now look at him. Him and his skanky wife and fat, stupid kids. That show would have been better if it had never existed.
