    can anyone explain just wtf is going on here???
    i'm running windows xp home, and the only software that i installed in the last 3 days was hardwarehq tools (a couple of .reg files for speeding up windoze)
    but this morning the computer started displaying numerous error messages like the one above, and running extremely slowly (took me 2 mins to copy & paste the pic above) not sure if it's some kind of virus, or something to do with those fecking reg files that i installed:mad:
    anyone got any ideas???

    the errors in event viewer are the same as the bubble in the pic above...

    that win2k fix was no use, it tells you to change a value in regedit to 0, but it was already 0:mad:

    Did you disconnect it from the internet (like pulling out the phone line) or was it cut off or anything? Looks like it was complaining that it couldn't write a file to your cache (Temporary Internet Files) cause it was cut off in mid-flow, so it's having a good wah about it. Can't say I've seen that happen before though.

    But hey, another reason not to 'upgrade' to xp :D

    see, totally innocent!

    it's been doing this since 11 o clock this morning:mad:
    you can use the computer for roughly half an hour, after that you have to restart the ****ing thing because of all the error messages popping up & the treakle like performance of the pc

    <nutty but sensible suggestion>
    Go through the .reg files and manually delete everything it did to the registry through regedit
    </nutty but sensible suggestion>

    But if it just changed something instead of creating something new, it might prove worse, might it not?

    go start run cmd

    in the dos window type

    chkdsk /f /r

    hit return yes to all and reboot.

    the chkdsk will then kick in...it takes a while to complete

    that chkdsk thing seems to have worked, i did it earlier, but had to reboot the system after 2 minutes... but the error messages didnt show up for at least an hour after rebooting, as opposed to the normal 5 minutes.
    i've let it run to completion now, so fingers crossed.
    cheers muck
