The Irish Independent reports that a number of high-profile names from the Irish telecommunications sector have applied for the position of Commissioner for Communications Regulation. Two new commissioners will be appointed to work alongside telecoms regulator Etain Doyle on a new three-person regulatory body, which will replace the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation (ODTR). The paper says potential candidates for the jobs include John Doherty, head of market operators at the ODTR; Guernsey regulator Regina Finn; Carmel Foley, director of consumer affairs; Willie Fagan, head of regulatory affairs at Chorus; and Competition Authority executive Isolde Goggin.

    I hope not.

Done nothing to prevent Eircoms monopoly. (and it is a monopoly). And in case you are wondering why...
Ms. Goggin worked for nine years with Telecom Éireann (now Eircom), the then State-owned telecommunications incumbent,
