Don't lie - if you lie, you are committing fraud. You also lose bitching rights for ever regarding dodgy insurance fraudsters if you participate, even if it's 'just a little' fraud.

I had a claim regarding delayed (not lost) baggage a few years ago, and they paid up, according to the 'small print' on the policy. You should probably study the policy document carefully before you submit your claim.

I was in Crete last summer for my holls. My friend and I arrived back to Cork minus our Luggage. Luckily mine arrived a couple of days later - delivered to my door !!!!! However, to this day (3 months later ) my friend has still not received hers. She did have insurance, which she took out with Budget Travel, which offers a maximum of £1000 for lost/damaged luggage but unfortuanetly her loss added up to alot more.

I definitely think you should read your insurance policy (especially the small print). There may be a maximum amount they pay even if ur loss is greater!!!

On the other hand, I have spoke to a few ppl who said their luggage has turned up months later - so fingers crossed!!

Anyway, the moral of the story is that you may not have to over-exaggerate your loss if the insurance company will only pay a set amount!!

ok update on the situation sent out a letter of claim to aer lingus and they sent back a letter saying they were only going to pay 280 euros!! they say they estimate the bag to be 14 kilos which is bull cause the woman at the check in desk but an orange heavy sticker on it!! and it was definately over the 30 kilo mark. i know that it was over the weight limit but she never asked for any moey to pay for it which i thought grand

    so what should i do??
i thought aer lingus would have the weight of the bag in record anyway?? and they checked it under the wrong name too like i was with my friend and they checked all four bags under his name and not one under mine!!!
something sounds not right here at all??
any idea what i should do?? im definatley going to right a letter back to them explaining that thier "estimate" is wrong
i wonder too cause of their check in mistake that they may have broken some international airline rule or some thing so i could use it against them. im not being a prick here but they lost my lugagge valued at around 1000 euros and im only asking for whats fair
    plesae help!!!!

Oh my god - that's unbelievable. €280 - thats pathetic!!

Firtsly, I would ask myself how did Aer Lingus "estimate" your baggage to be only 14kilos? What method did they use to reach this figure? Surely they would have your exact weight on records like you said and if not then how the hell did they get 14kilos?

I would definitely not let it go! If you really had a value of €1000 in your bag then why should they expect you to settle for less, when the whole incident was out of your control???

Personally, I would be really annoyed if they offered me that amount. They are trying to tell you your bag weighed half the weight you believe it to be - what do they take you for?

Most Big Companies like that try to fob you off when you send an initial complaint, and some may even go as far as to ignore your first few letters. But I wouldn't give up - no company likes the thought of complaining mem who never goes away.

I would also try get a bit of Legal advice aswell and see if theyare within their rights to only give you the amount they "estimate" you lost. You'll get no where with uneducated comments to them etc etc

Anyway, Good Luck with it and let us know how you got on in the end!!!
