Vertical versus Horizontal on Astra 2D

I'm writing from Madrid where all the vertical frequencies, including 10.818 (which has the recent Islandic tests), 10.906 (UTV, Grampian etc) and 10.876 (Box Office) appear to be a lot stronger than than any of the Horizontal ones.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Is it the strengths of the frequencies themselves???
(some of the horizontal frequencies when they come in do appear stronger than others i.e.10.744more than 10.921)

Or does this sound more like a dish allignment or lnb skew problem??

    I think he means:
10818V NLC Test 1 Promo for Icelandic channel
10818V NLC Test 2 Promo for Icelandic channel.

    Or that far south!!!

The Astra footprint is extremely conservative. Shouldn't come into Spain at all but with a 1.35 I'm getting the Vertical signals all day and in pretty bad weather but perfect Horizontal signals as late as 19.30 on a very lucky day and only til 13.30 and with lots of breakup and disappearance afterwards otherwise.

It all depends on the transponders being used. Generally Astra can back off the transponder power so you could see fluctuations over a long period. Different transponders tend to be used for different areas. (I haven't looked at the Astra footprints for some time.) The other factor around this time of the year is that the arc of the Sun may be close to the elevation of the satellite around this time of the year and on marginal signals there will be an increase in noise when it passes behind the satellite.

I am not sure that it would be a skew/aiming error problem without checking the footprint charts.
