Activating FTA Cards

    Hi All,

I'm a bit new to this forum. I've managed to get an FTA card from a mate of mine in the UK which has not been activated yet. How do I go about this. I want to make sure when it's in my decoder in Ireland that I pick up Channel 4 and 5. Do I give them my Digibox number or what way is this normally done.

    Thanks for help in advance,
    Stu ;-)

Yes - you have to give the box serial number, version and sometimes the make of the box. This is standard procedure, and is nothing to worry about.

Make sure you block out your phone number if dialling from ROI.

You should have most channels within 2 hours, but BBC1 can take more than 24 hrs to activate.

    Good Luck.

They might want to know postcode and card number too.

If they suss you arn't ringing from the address the card was sent to, no problem.. You are at work :D

    Cheers Lads,
I'm actually getting the mate that ordered the card for me in the UK to do all the ringing to get the card activated and i'm using his address so hopefully everything should be ok.

    Thanks Again,
    Stu ;-)

Hi my brother-in-law's FTA card has become deactivated due to being left out of the box for a long time. I am I right in thinking that it will reactivated if left in overnight? Or will it need reactivating by FTA in Scotland? Any advice please. Ta.

I beleive if you stick it in it will be ok after awhile unless it missed some kind of special update.

Ringing up is not a problem.
Of course you might be ringing from the Office rather than home during working hours. (Which is less of a problem, assuming your boss isn't mean)

Hi thanks for that. However interestingly my sister tells me that only ITV and CH4 are not working, giving the message to up grade service call broadcaster. I thought the BBC's became deactivated? Anyone else had this problem.

I got my card activated on Monday. I tried calling myself on a mobile, but I think the lady at the other end was a bit suspicious. I was told that the card could only be activated by the cardholder (who is female). She then asked me was she (the cardholder) not there with me. I made an excuse and said I'd get her to call back herself (which she did and everything was O.K.).

Maybe a mobile is traceable, or maybe was she just cautious because of my accent.

If my contact's name had not been recognisably a female name, (for example an African or otherwise exotic name), I wonder would she have asked was I the cardholder? I guess I'll never know.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

My tuppence worth is that the best course of action is to get your contact to activate the card, but maybe I was unlucky/stupid.

in regard to activating cards did anyone read the november issue of what satelitte mag. it says the new sky cards and free to air ones will not have to be activated by ringing sky or the call centre in england it will be done automatically. i wonder does this apply to replacement cards only or to new free to air ones as well.

Based on that presumption,, it will be easier now to obtain a ftv card and just put it in the box if its self activating.
btw seca2 on 1st Nov for canal+ , prov id 080 is there now so good bye to the "other chanels" for a bit.

Well, if the bbc/sky cards are self activating based on a switchon in box wont it be easier?
As for prov 080 well use your own initative. Putting my concrete slippers on now for being bold.
